After lurking the forum and spending extensive time researching and reviewing various rep dealers, I have pulled the trigger on purchasing my first rep; a Vinatage Red Submariner 1680 from PureTimeWatch.com

I have been collecting watches for a few years and am looking forward to wearing this one... I hope I have made a solid choice for my first rep.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Hi DJD1966,

The vintage red sub is a very nice watch, I own one, bought locally.

I think you can have a stunning watch with a few mods, like change the bezel insert and making the lugholes.

Take a look at doubleredseadweller.com, you'll find a lot of info.

Congrats and post pics when it came.

Sorry DJ,

I was "talking" with spirit, regarding puretime vintages, and he pointed me to the site.

Actually it is a very nice vintage sub. I would only change the clasp, but it has all the mods I talked above.

Congrats and send us some pics.

Max,

Thanks... I am looking forward to this as I own several gens (Omega, Corum, Baume Mercier, Oris, Tag, Movado) and have always been curious as to how a rep would hold up in comparison... After looking around, this seemed to have the best movement and was fairly close to the gen... Any other suggestions regarding mods are appreciated.

I will post pics when I receive..

My rep arrived while I was out of the country for a few weeks... I returned last night and opened the package like a kid on Christmas day... I am very pleased with the watch - it looks, feels and and operates wonderfully. The crown is a bit stiff but I can probably work that out. I will post pictures tonight.

I am a bit disappointed in the bracelet. It seems a bit "thin". One of the screws was missing in the links - though this wasn't a big deal as I have to remove a link anyway. The clasp isn't the best and the flipping locking mechanism doesn't lock down securely. I will likely replace the bracelet...

Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice replacement bracelet?

Hi DJ,

Congrats with your new watch, even with your disappointment with the bracelet.

I don't think find a bracelet will be a problem, every dealer can source one, but you could find some problem fixing it on the case.

Depending on the watch model, i.e. if it has hollow mid links, it appear to thin and light, but it is part of the model and replication.

I think the best to do is try changing or fixing parts, like the clasp.

If the flipping lock don't secure properly (some gens don't to), try to bend it gently against the clasp, and try, then bend a little more, and try, and so on.

It is a hobby and a part of the game.

Max... Thanks for the advice... I just re-read the Rolex Sub Shootout thread and notice that even the gen bracelet is apparently a bit light and flimsy feeling.. I am thinking that I might order a NATO style bracelet for the watch - it is a great look and will fit with how I want to wear and use this watch...

I just picked up a Nato strap from Corvus for one of my vintage SD. Great strap....looks good!

Fiddo... I just purchased the same from Corvus... Thanks...

Max... Squeezing the flip was the fix and quite the "Well, Duh!" moment for me... Don't know why I didn't think about that!

Well... I have been trying to take pics of my Submariner and can't get the camera to focus for the close ups... I will have to try with my SLR later... Anyway, as I was taking pics, it struck me that my "Vintage Red Submariner" (which I confirmed on my order) doesn't have "Submariner" in red print... Bummer.... On the other hand - it is a good looking watch and looks great with the NATO band on it...
