Why can't rep makers modify the Asia 7750 movement -- or come up with an alternative movement -- so the date wheel doesn't require a deep date window on the dial, a big flaw in many reps? If the Swiss can do so, why can't the wizards of Guangdong?

No, there is no mod.
The Swiss don't. The watches that this is an issue on don't use a native 7750.
They are either modified 7750 ebauches or in house MVTs.

In short, the answer is 'because they don't care'. We still buy the watches don't we?

There is a mod to get rid of the sunken DW, but it's extremely laborious to perform. So much so that all modders I know now refuse to do it. I got it done on two watches with A7750 and it worked well.

There was talk of a 7753 rep... but I'm not holding my breath.

It is rather incredible that the rep manufacturers can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars buying gen watches to use "as an example" to ensure the reps they make are "1:1", but none of them seem to be able to drop a grand on a gen Swiss Valjoux 7750 movement to take apart and use the parts to make molds for exact duplication.
But at least my Sub is an exact 1:1 Grade AAAAA++ using a gen as an example.

They can resell the watch ("Jackson Tse"s are frequently on ebay, correct me if I'm wrong), but not the movement.

What about the SW200 - isn't that a good replacement for an A7750?

The SW200 is a clone of the Eta 2824-2, if I'm not mistaken.

And the rep makers have to use movements that are available. I think I read that a 7753 clone is due out in a few months. That will solve the sunken date wheel problem. The reason it's sunken is because they have to add gears to change the position of the seconds hand. That raises the dial.

If there is enough demand for a 7753 clone, I can't imagine that there are not people working on it. It seems that these clones come out often enough but once taken apart by the rep watchsmiths, they tend to disappoint. A decent cure to the sunken date wheel would mean many new ult versions. Breitling fans would rejoice.

A good upgrade would be to stop producing movements that beat at 21,6 kbph (the gen 7750 doesn't) and make a working micro-regulator.

The sunken DW is due to an unnatural position of the date window at 4.30. This problem does not exist when the date is at 3, as it should for a 7750

A good update also would be to have the ETA stamps engraved, as they are on the 2836 clones.
The problem is that there are various manufacturers for the A7750 (at least 3?), each with variations which don't make them fully compatible with all gen parts, and each with different quality levels.

A clone 7753 would be more than welcome.

That would be the SW500. It would be nice if they do a 7753... they could call it 503...
