Hi all,

I think I have a problem with my new rep, but am not sure, so thought it would be worth posting on here first before going back to the dealer.

I've just purchased a ceramic sub with 2836 clone movement from Puretime.
The watch is fantastic, and I'm really happy with it except for one thing....

From a manual wind (20 - 30 turns), I only get about two days worth of charge before it dies, even if I've been wearing it. EG I manually wound the watch on Monday morning, then wore it all day on Monday and Tuesday, but by last night (Tuesday) the watch had stopped.

To me this looks like the auto winder isnt working properly, I'd have expected there to be alot more charge in the watch if it's being worn daily, but maybe I'm expecting too much? I could work around it by just manually winding the watch every morning, but I'm guessing I shouldnt have to!

Also when manually winding, you can feel the watch vibrating and its quite noisy!

Any thoughts???

Yes, sounds like you have a problem. If you wear an automatic watch all day, it shouldn't wind down by the end of the day. The easy thing to do is to check that the rotor is in place correctly. Pop the back open and check that it turns normally and freely and that no screws are loose. This should be an easy check. If you can't fix it that way, contact the dealer.

You guessed right, it should never need a manual wind if being worn. It has an issue of some kind. It may be best to contact PT about this.

Thanks for the quick replies. I dont have a tool to pop the back, so I think I'll contact PT and see what happens.

Send it back - if you open it up and start messing with it you run the risk of PT trying to claim that YOU broke it.
Sorry you got a lemon - it happens some times.

I did not order from puretime but rather from another dealer on here. But I had the same problem with my Cartier only it was actually worse. So i sent it back. This comes close to confirming my belief that all the dealers get this stuff from the same factories - more or less

Hopefully you can resolve it locally somehow so you wont have to pay the $$$ to send it back to china and then wait for your replacement. Honestly, My gut feeling is that I think if you contine to buy reps, that sooner or later, you will have to develop a relationship with a local watch repairman (who is rep friendy). Your other choice is to always send these things back everytime they have a hiccup when you could quickly resolve it doing doing it yourself like Rooster said (which i wouldnt recommend unless u know what u r doing) or paying like $10-$20 or so to have the watchman fix it.

Also, lets say the looks of the rep are real good - close to a gen lets say as far as looks. If you return it, I would try and see if they can repair that piece. Otherwise, you run the risk in receiving a replacement that may not be as perfect "looking" AS the one you returned. If they do give you a replacemt ask for high res close up pics of the replacement. That's what i did with my dealer. I also told him to make sure it was working properly (by wearing it for a day and thensee if it s working properly) I dont know if they will do that but I told him that i trust him in testing a brand new watch out himself.

invest in a stress ball... works all the time

the best $2 I've ever spent

Very good advice. Or crumpled up duct tape is also a good option. This could save you a lot of wasted time and effort (and perhaps money) in sending it back. Most of the DOA watches I have had were a silly fix like a loose screw or something like that. Sorted in 10 seconds. But of course, only open the watch if you have at least a vague idea of what you're doing. If you're too unsure or nervous about it, don't touch it.
