Hey guys,

I'm getting comfortable enough tinkering with my watches that I want to try and mod my 16610 sub to be a better "clone."

So far, from my Rolex trolling I've seen that the crystal lacks the proper dome, the font on the dial (the crown logo specifically) is a bit smudgy and the CG's need to be filed.

The cyclops is pretty well centered, but my photography fails to reflect this. I'm about to order a new bracelet because my clasp is shameful to say the least. (Any suggestions on who to source one from?) Also, I've included some photos of the movement. If anyone could let me know what kind it is...That'd be fantastic.

In exchange for your suggestions I promise to post well photographed tutorials of everything I do.

Now, the photos... Help me decide on the mods that will help get this baby closer to the gen.

best bet is to buy a bk v2 or a bk v3. it will save you more time and mods to make your roly look more gen.

That's my back up plan, but I figure why not give some heavy modding a try. What advantages will bk's version have over my current set up?

I know his datewheels are fantastic.

ive tried doing mods but searching for the right items and toools and messing up is jus not something i like. well bks wm9 is good in comparison to the gen. it has the good rehaut the sapphire crystal is the right height. the crown looks almost exactly like the gen, the cgs are a better shape. theres more good things about these watches.

I've got an extensive shop and tool set, it's just the information I'm hunting for. I'll definitely look into bk's wm9 if this one goes poor.

Modding your watches gives more life to our hobby... So keep it up... I'm not a Rolex fan so I wouldn't know which rep looks more like the gen than the next... If I wear a gen Rolex, surely people will think it's a fake...

I think the best thing you can do to start is shaping the CGs. It is not too hard. Use the search button and check out the tutorials we have in stock in the mod section.
Keep up the good work mate.

Those cg's are the first.

Any thoughts on the insert? Replace? Keep? Reshape the pearl?

Also, replacing the saffire with an AR coated properly beveled one?

How about the bezel? Are the teeth deep enough and the correct shape?

if you have the tools then go nuts and mod the crap outta this one.. its good practice. BUT the shallow "wokky" rehaut on this one is something you cant fix. If you want true to gen, then you need an MBW or better yet the WM9 to start with.

Rehaut can be fixed but requires a lathe although I seem to remember reading about somebody accomplishing it with a Dremel! Dissy is correct and that's the way I started - getting a cheap Sub and ripping it up! If you don't mind spending a bit on tools, and actually want to mod more than this one, then use it as a learning tool. I still have the first Sub I started modding almost a year ago and it's turned into a respectable watch over time. It's been "customized to taste" and somewhat a fantasy now with Maxi-hands and I built a Maxi-dial - still needs a crown and better pearl but it's not too bad as is...

This started out as a <$50 Sub...
