Snus thread!

For those of you who aren't aware of Snus, it's a Swedish oral tobacco that is NOT chewing tobacco or dip - or anywhere close no spitting whatsoever.

It is moist but not wet, generally in packaged portions but available loose, its pasteurized and generally chemical free - save for a preservative or 2. Little to no health risks, clean, convenient and ever so tasty.

I have a General Mini in right now sitting here at work enjoying a coffee.

"Little to no health risks"

Taken out of the air, is it not? I do understand that there are no conclusive studies to the effects, but most agree on that tobacco or nicotine is never good for your health.

Either way, I don't mind the health risks for the users, what I do mind is my lawn and the streets full of discarded snus, since we have more users than smokers.

Tried it when I was seven, threw up all over mother´s favourite antique carpet, haven't tried it since.

Aneki: Sorry I didn't qualify further, not pulled out of air but I should have elaborated I was in synopsis mode :). The known risks are an increase in Pancreatic cancer however since that is already such a rare disease that it could be a statistical anomaly. The lowered intake of carcinogens is the best part, especially from being an ex-smoker of 16 years.

I like this statement:

Kenneth Warner, director of the University of Michigan Tobacco Research Network,

"The Swedish government has studied this stuff to death, and to date, there is no compelling evidence that it has any adverse health consequences. ... Whatever they eventually find out, it is dramatically less dangerous than smoking."

You are correct, you are better without it, however the same can be said for most substances you can put in your body, a number of food and drink included.

Littering is inexcusable, there is a tray built in to catch waste to be disposed of properly, however some people are just dirty.

Exploder: what country are you in that Snus was around when you were 7? Sweden?

Yes, Sweden. My friend Benny, the bastard, had stolen a dosa Röda lacket or maybe Ettan from his father and we just haaaaad to try it out. Not a good idea, not a good idea. Portionssnus was not invented yet and I believe we swallowed most of it. Still feel a bit nauseous when I talk about it...

The Agency that does the website and all the marketing for Snus is right here in St. Louis. I did some work with them and they have a big cooler in their offices full of the stuff...

That is f'in gross. My first Snus was a portion and a min portion. Even working up to a fullsize portion took some time - and this coming form a pack a day smoker :)

I'm nauseous hearing you talk about it...

Rare? From what I understand it is an epidemic. I actually tracked this. I see a Pancreatic Cancer commercial at least once an hour.

As far as the health risks... from what I understand, snus is not flame cured or heated as high as US chew, therefore no nasty extra carcinogens are produced in it's manufacture.

The couple of old guys that developed pancreatic cancer were already users for something like 60 years...

Me, I've been chewing Skoal Long Cut wintergreen like it was snus for 30.

I am pretty sure that I am about ready to switch.. quality has changed for the worse twice in the last year (after last years surveys on preferences and timed to the package revisions), not much mind you, but I noticed.
