If you ajusted the beat instead of the timing you have a problem.
Very hard to get it back. Did you take note of where it was before you moved it?

Take it to a watchsmith if you can't get it back to where you want. You don't have the tools to set the beat properly yourself I'm afraid.

aneki is correct, if you have ajusted the beat and didn't note exactly where it was you won't get it right without a watch timer.

What I've found sometimes works, is to find a picture of the movement factory fresh and set it as close as you can to the one in the picture. Then adjust the correct tab. You might get lucky.

Of course the best way is to take it to someone with the proper machine to time it.

Update! thread revival. After 2 weeks of playing around I managed to get the watch to run at +1 in 24 hours when on its back. Not bad! Pure luck though.

+1 was average over a week.

nice recovery :)
fiddling around with regulation can be quite frustrating sometimes, like when do you stop....i know i can get it just a little bit better and then...damn, i'm out by 5 seconds again.

that's exactly what happened, would be like down to -5 then suddenly WTF +10? then it'd be a case of nudging the stud minute amounts literally tapping it and sometimes I wasn't even sure it had moved lol!

Im happy with +1 :)

Remember regulation and adjustment was practiced long before vibrographs were invented. You can just remove the balance and note the position of the impulse jewel with the hairspring at rest, then center it in relation to the pallet fork. You can get it 90 to 95 percent close via this method. Maybe even 100 percent, but no guarantee on that without the vibrograph. Adjusting the timing can be down on a trial-and-error basis over several days as you have demonstrated; the vibrograph just eliminates the trial-and-error process by providing instant results.

so I hope you learned someting out of it.
Is it + 1 sec or 1 min ?
I regulate all my watches and it normally takes 4 - 7 days until they run in COSC, and I always like to have them running +

no, no +1 second! I literally tuned it to near perfection. (although it did depend on how it lay overnight.)
