Hey guys i just got in my modded 6263 daytona RCO from kilowattore it's amazing and now i can finally do a comparison between it and the stock cartel watch.

This is just a very basic overview will update as i wear the watch more often.
The modded is on the right with the black dial whilst the stock is on the left with the white dial.

THE DIAL

The stock dial's subdials are way too small and the spacing is incorrect. The 3 and 9 subdials are too far into the dial whilst the 6 subdial is correct in position. The end result is a funny look due to the subdials being too small compared to the gen spec viet dial. The modded dial's proportions are way better due to the correct sized subdials.

The viet dial has been aged whilst the stock one hasn't and it shows very clearly with the stock one being almost eggshell white whilst the modded having a ivory colour looks way more period correct.

THE CRYSTAL

The crystal makes a huge difference here, the stock one is boxy and just crap with little to no distortion on it. The domed t21 on the modded is rounded and looks way better.

THE CROWN AND PUSHERS

The modded watch has a athaya crown tube and crown which feels sharper and more grippy which is correct as per gen (have had experience with a few). The stock crown is okay but the athaya crown is just a bit bigger and grippier.

THE HANDS

Kilowattore aged the hands and added thin subdial hands which really enhance the look and makes the subdials feel bigger. The stock hands are okay but the subdial hands are way too thick and the luminous paint on the stock one is too white.

THE BEZEL

Kilo sanded the bezel if i'm not wrong and this shows when reflecting the light. The stock bezel is reflective and looks brand new whilst the modded bezel looks more period correct. Both have flat "s".

THE MODS DONE TO THE WATCH

T21 crystal
Thin subdial hands
Athaya crown and crown tube
Ruby 6263 Black RCO Dial
Case work and aging
6 o'clock subdial mod to accomodate the gen spec dial

Do let me know if you guys have any questions or observations of my comparison. It's fairly simple for now, will flesh it out as i notice more stuff.

Thanks for the comparison! Are the lug hole drilled on the modded or are they both accepting vintage straps?

Thanks for the direct comparison pics, appreciate it. I have a JKF "classic" PN incoming (SS bezel and solid pushers) and a Vietnam dial waiting to go into it (both are Panda) so I'll do some more comparison photos of those two together once I have the watch.

I must admit I prefer a boxy, "top hat" plexi to a rounded one, so I'm going to be researching my options to see whether the stock one is acceptable (mimicking a service or tropic version for instance) or if I will have to get a domed one for a more accurate look.

As far as i know all daytonas came with the domed crystal not the boxed ones. May be wrong tho! The stock crystal is super crap tho

both have drilled lug holes as seen in the pics and lug width is 19mm so whatever strap you buy must be that size.

Oyster endlinks for this case is 571 btw.

Ok cool! By the way I love your Viet dial! It's rare right, where did you get it, I watch for it for a long time for a reasonable price though. Hard to get!

in principle - early non-oyster a/o exotic-dials more domed, later oyster a/o non-exotoc-dials more top hat, whereas this is not always 100% strict, so up to your preference, esp. with a panda.
a sternkreuz t21 always is a good option imho

cheers!

Thanks for the crystal advice guys - appreciate it!

Coincidentally, Marv just sent me QC pics of the donor JKF panda. It all looked okay, apart from the timegrapher results which were +13 sec and 343 deg. That looked a bit too far out of the acceptable zone for me.

What's the total cost of your build plus the work that went into it?
I would greatly appreciate any info you have about the panda build since it is definitely going to be my next project.

Very interesting, I can understand that stock Cartel is a good start.

I was following this post and it lead me to an other one where à member had links to vintage parts and watches and gen parts. I unfortunately lost the tab does anyone know the post I’m talking about. A part of it said if you talk to these guys don’t mention reps as they deal with gen watches and parts
