Movement spacer ring to fit 3135 in 2824 case?

I've done a fair bit of searching, and haven't come up with anything other than people looking to go the other way, a 2824 in a 3135 case.

Does anyone know of a movement spacer ring that would allow a 3135 to fit in a 2824 case, particularly a raffles case? The movement fits, but really needs a spacer ring to keep it centered. I tried turning a 2824 spacer ring down to fit but it gets too flimsy for my lathe jaws, ultimately it needs to be about 0.45 thick.

Hello! As far as I know, stem height is different. You can fit a 2824 into a 3135 case if you fit H4 wheels, that have more height, but I guess that you can't do the other way.

I've put a 3135 into a Noob 2824 Yachti case without issue - everything fit nicely including stem height. I had to use different movement tabs. The rotor cleared the caseback OK.

For your case which needs a custom spacer, you can use a crystal gasket. Make a single vertical cut for the stem area. Then shave the width by hand with 400, 320 or 220 grit sandpaper depending on how fast / how much you want to remove. Fold the sandpaper over the gasket, hold one end of the gasket and pull the paper down the whole length. It doesn't take long and is easy to maintain consistent width.

Don't use black sandpaper, it can stain the gasket. Use a dummy movement plate or dead movement for test fitting so you dont get nylon fibers in your good movement. Plan on ultrasound cleaning of the case and the finished gasket. The height of the gasket can be shaved also so the movement tabs are cleared, or small notches can be filed into the top edges. Use a very fine grit 2000 or 3000 to give it a final really smooth finish.

There's nothing wrong with using a nylon spacer. It can fit so well that the movement and dial are totally immobile in the case.

this pic it appears to me that the stem is at an angle through the tube into the movement. is it the angle of the photo or is it angled that much? normal function with no issues??

I think the downward angle of the movement holder is influencing the apparent slope of the stem.

Here is a quick modded image removing the holder angles

To be clear the second set of images in my post #3 above (showing the gasket spacer) is a different watch and movement than the first set of images showing a 3135 in a 2824 case. Neither watch had any noticeable stem angles or crown threading/functioning issues.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks! I was using all sorts of plastic trying to find something of the right thickness, but a crystal gasket is probably the perfect item to use. I had to machine the caseback a bit for the rotor to clear, but otherwise it fits, just getting it to stay centered was the issue.

"supposedly" the 2824 and 3135 have the same stem height, so that shouldn't present any issues: https://imgur.com/Un5uIyX

Also do you know the specs of the nylon gasket you used? I'm looking at an 30(diameter)x0.85(height)x0.5(thick)mm gasket to hopefully avoid/minimize sanding. I saw most gaskets are 1.2mm in height or something like that.

Also for others regarding the need to dremel the raffles 2824 caseback for the 3135 rotor. Is this a couple mm on the inside or allot more work involved?

Raffles 2824 case back fits well for 3135. You may inform Ken in advance that you're ordering it to fit a 3135 movement in it, just to be sure.
