I don't think I've ever written a review for a TD before, but felt I would after my recent experiences with Trusty.
I always used to use Mary (TD next door) and I was always happy with her service. However she is a smaller TD and often didn't seem to have early access to new releases - it always seemed to be a month or so after a new release came out that she got access which was annoying because I'd see loads of wristies on here from people who bought from Trusty and I'd still be waiting for QC pics! I put up with this because her QC is great and her pricing competitive. Over the past year though, her pricing crept up so I decided to try one of the big companies as they always seemed to have instant access to new releases.
So I used Trusty to order a VSF Smurf last year just after it came out. I got QC pics and I had concerns about the date being low in the window so rejected it. A second, singular photo arrived a day later and it looked to me to be the identical watch so I rejected again on the same grounds. Now I'm not normally that picky with QC, but I'd seen loads of other QC pics on the forum that were absolutely perfect so I felt like I was getting someone else's reject. Trusty came back to me saying that the entire batch had the issue and it was only in respect of a few dates, the late 20s. I checked with owners on the forum and they confirmed the same - the late 20s do sit a tad low. So I got back to Trusty and said that I understood it was the way the watches are and I wouldn't reject the watch on that basis again.
Now it seems at this stage there was a misunderstanding. I thought I'd shortly get a full set of QC pics for the second watch (or perhaps even a third watch). Trusty however understood I'd approved the second watch and posted it to me.
When it arrived, it was great BUT it had brushed bracelet instead of the PCL it should have. Now I quite like a brushed bracelet on a Smurf - but as an alternative, not as an everyday thing. For me the PCL really helps the watch pop and so I was a bit gutted, especially as I'd felt I'd rejected the watch and hadn't approved QC.
I got in touch with Trusty and explained the situation and their first point of view was, to paraphrase, 'You accepted the QC, so it's too late.'
Now at this stage things could have gone nuclear. I could have said nasty things about them, or opened one of those horrible threads on here designed to pressure a TD into acting against their wishes. They could have stuck to their guns and tried to insist I'd approved the watch and we'd have fallen out and I'd have been left with a bad taste in my mouth. But I could see things from their point of view and understood how they thought I'd approved the watch so had every sympathy with them. As such we continued to exchange very civil and friendly emails for a while, with me trying to get them to see things from my point of view.
They ultimately agreed with my position and said they'd get me a replacement strap. Brilliant I thought. This was some time before CNY. I ordered another watch with them around this time and suggested they pop the bracelet in with the new watch to save on postage costs. They said they would and so when my new watch arrived some time later, I was disappointed there was no additional strap in the box.
I spoke to them about it and they said they had put the spare strap in there. Again, things could have got nasty, I could have assumed they were lying and trying to backtrack, but I thought, 'These guys are trusted for a reason. They've dealt very fairly with me so far, let's continue to trust them' so I did! I sent another email promising the strap wasn't in the box and explaining that the box hadn't been tampered with, asking whether they could have a look around the office in case it hadn't made it into the box by accident. Lo and behold, it hadn't and they found it!
So today, I'm delighted to confirm that when another new watch arrived (another Smurf, but the 12.... version, rather than my earlier 11..... model), also included was an additional, perfect, VSF PCL bracelet for my old Smurf.
So this just goes to show that these guys absolutely CAN be trusted and their name and status is well deserved. I will certainly continue to deal with them very happily knowing that they stand by their word.
Great people, great service, highly recommended.
Thanks Trusty!
