Hey folks,

I have read every page of the "wrapped" vs "gold plated" guide in this section https://forum.replica-watch.info/forum/rolex-tudor-replicas/315608-the-wrapped-gold-sub-guide

Does anyone here have purchased WRAPPED Gold submariner 116618LB and have a photo of it? I am hesitant to pull the trigger on $908 when I clearly see one that is on sale for $268 (below)

Other than COLOR difference, how is the durability after a few years? Anyone with experience please provide photos of your current gold sub.

$908

thanks very much!

I'm sort of curious on the same subject but for the ss and gold centerlink version. I've read through everything as well.

I'm fixing to pull the trigger on a GMT CHNR and have read through pages and pages of gold watch threads. Seems to be a very mixed result. For the guys who've had their watches hold up well, is there anything in particular they did compared to those who's faded/discolored quickly. Also wondering if some factories simply do it better than others. The fact that some of the posted info is rather old doesn't help either. As stated in the stickied gold thread, it seems like the process of plating/wrapping has gotten somewhat better over the years.

That wrapped gold thread was good. We know there is no gold in there and it is purely thicker coat.... but it looks like no one has purchased the glated vs wrapped to really have long term comparison.

Here is the price difference. A gold plated submariner is discounted at $298 with A3135 movement compared to wrapped by Taiwan factory at 2836 and most expensive with VRF at $908 with the same 2836 movement... the huge difference, I am not sure if it is even worth getting the wrapped.

1. This one is $268 with Asian 3135 movement with 316L

2. This one is $608 by TW (Taiwan) factory movement is 2836 m ovement 316L
this one is wrapped.

3. This one is VRF Max most expensive at $908 same movement 2836 and 316L. This one is also Wrapped

^ That looks very nice. Have you bought the gold plated? I want to see a comparison on how different is the color. Some TD claim the color is not that big of a session.

You're not understanding what I am asking. I know the photo is your wrapped watch. I am asking if you also have a gold plated watch , same model or not. I am asking you if you do. What is the color difference. If you can take a photo side by side would be nice.

That's quite an absurd way of asking question lol

each model, both wrapped and plated, has a different color based on the mixture used. The microns have nothing to do with it. The difference lies in the thickness of the golden layer and obviously in the duration. For example a plated BP has a better color than a wrapped Noob...

All factories dont use real gold as real gold is expensive and fades since its usually plated with 0.5 microns to 1 which is very low...

All factories use electrophoretic gold dye lacquer method which explains the no traces of gold. Its extremely cheap to do for factories and why you may have noticed an orange like tint on some reps gold colours.. LB40 dyes is a popular brand in Asia used by many jewelers that are into costume jewelry.

As far as durability goes its probably 4 to 6h when they finish the curing.

I wouldn't recommend "wrapped" because of price. Buy plated version if you dont care about colour or weight of replica. Cheap to replace when time is up. The clasp/buckle will fade first though from wear.

Here the difference between a VRF wrapped and a Gen (R), the color depends on the light but the VRF color is darker.....
