I just got got a gen sub from the AD, havent gotten anything from this AD before so they thought it was my first Rolex or something. They were giving me instructions on how to operate and all and suddenly I hear something that interests me.

They said "try not to change the date between 10pm to 2am because it will affect the date mechanism"

I was curious so I asked "Did Rolex tell you to say that?"

And the reply I got was "Yes it is official instructions from Rolex"

I sometimes cheekily try to change the date of my gens at 10 to 2 but nothing ever breaks, it just solidly clicks over. Cant say the same about the SH though.

So yea just sharing with you guys here.

I don't understand... Why would you deliberately see if you can break a gen movement? I'm relatively new to all this, but the instruction to not change the date between 10 and 2 was one of the first things I read - and I never even considered that it would be any different depending on whether you're changing the date on a rep or gen movement.

If something is an ill-advised thing to do, then why do it?

It seems like sensible advice to me.

I purchased a brand new Audi RS6 earlier this month.

The AD representative told me to ensure that the oil is topped up and checked periodically.

I asked if Audi told him to say that and he replied “yes, it is official Audi advise”

Sometimes I cheekily drain half the oil to save on weight.

Nothing has broken so far...in fact I’ve just come back from a long drive and the oil light had been flashing for a week now. The engine pulls strong, everything sounds solid. Think I’ll continue driving with half the recommended amount of oil.

If something breaks, I’ll take it back to Audi and moan

I know this is a watch forum, but I think the important thing here is this brand new RS6... :drinks_cheers:

It's common knowledge. Although we've all seen threads where someone was complaining their watch was broke when it was just not wound...

It's the time when the gears in the date works becomes engaged and messing around with it at that time can ***k it up.

When changing the date I set the time to 6.

Anecdotally I had an RS4 which drank oil - sometimes got through a litre a month....

Why the saltiness towards the OP? He didn’t say he has changed the date incorrectly on his sub; just on some gens, which could be seiko or Casio

IMO, it won't break if you have to do it occasionally

Part 3135-623 and 3135-625 are both responsible for the date flip mechanism and they get hit when changing time during the "forbidden hours." IMO, these parts are durable and I don't see why they should break.

Also, TRF has cited multiple times that it's ok to change dates during the "forbidden hours":
- https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...highlight=date (even Vanessa, a certified watchmaker who specialises in Rolex, says there is no harm)

But bear in mind, this principle may not apply to other movements, like ETA or clone 3135 movements (e.g., the SH3135's equivalent replica part 3135-623 is trash - the factory glued a jewel onto the date finger which is prone to snapping off if you change dates during the "forbidden hours")

It's not an official instruction, but a lot of brands has this instruction, so if the AD sells some brands, he mixed instructions.
Change the date when you want and enjoy your watch ;)

Maybe you should drain all of the oil out. Might run even better... tsk tsk, the things you hear people say...or write.
