So, I was talking with misiekped about servicing the noob 4130 and told him that the chrono hand stutters when engaged. The problem was the rep clutch wheel and he advised me to buy a Gen chrono seconds gear too. Especially a more recent revisioned version by Rolex.
This chrono part together with the running seconds gear has received an improvement but Rolex never told people about it.
So I recieved the chrono seconds gear and was surprised by the teeth.. It's nothing like we have ever seen before on any watch..
If you look closely you will see that the teeth are surrounded by mini springs.
So at first I was surprised and did not know what to think of it and I did a little investigation. I found a website that was linked to the Rolex forums where a watchmaker showed a teardown and service of the 4130. He mentioned that the running seconds gear was improved by Rolex and that all new 4130 movements and those that serviced by Rolex, get this new version of gears with spring loaded teeth.
The whole reason why Rolex did this improvement is to improve the amplitude of watch when the chrono is engaged. It should reduce the amplitude drop when using the chrono.
Unfortunately, I did not test the before phase of the normal gears to see how much it would make a difference. But I did so after my watch was serviced and I replaced those parts.
Here are the results :
Chrono disengaged amplitude: 284
Chrono engaged amplitude : 267
Not bad, I must say.
If anyone has a timegrapher and a serviced noob daytona, please post your results here so that we can compare the differences.
