The question is if modders and replaters plate the same way Clean does.

You can see right off the bat on the comparison pics that Clean did not do a good job of plating to match gen WG. IMHO very hard to notice, I would not bother or spend money on plating a "WG" watch. I do not think modders can get that warm hue and slight yellow tint correct.

Also on a strap watch it is much harder to spot in the flesh, if it were a 116509 I may think differently.

It’s called “platinum white gold” plating solution and it’s quite commonly sold here in Italy. Company making it in located in Vicenza. I honestly can’t tell the difference between genuine white gold bezels and bezels coated with this stuff when put side by side.

Plating is a plus. I’m no chemist myself, my chem knowledge is high school grade, all I know is what chem producers tell me and kind of trust them when visual examination respect what they say.

A respected watch smith who has an eye for detail says he notices no difference between this WG plating and the real deal. So are you saying he's lying, or he just can't see as well as you can apparently?

Platinum plating has a lightness value of 86.6. Palladium has 83.8. Rhodium 92.3. White gold value is 65.

Now with Rolex WG being unique and with more bleaching metals let's say it's 70.

I tagged him as he was relevant to the conversation. I am not trying to “make you guys fight". I am trying to find the answer to the conversation which you were so adamant in stating wg plating is not genlike. Seems like you're afraid to stand by that position at this point.

Not many, CF and BTF are the ones to pick right now. There are very good comparisons from jtime, the one watches and some members, you can check them. Or buy both, keep the one you like and sell the other.

I suggest BTF.

But basically what I was trying to say is technically speaking WG plating doesn't exist like there is no commercial process for WG plating and I think that's where some members were confused with.

If I went to a supplier and told him I need WG plating he's going to say okay what do you want and offer me rhodium, platinum, palladium, white bronze, etc.

I think these reps DJ bezels are white bronze btw with a really good polish. The prices of rhodium is ridiculous right now.

Nope lol. I just ask Nikz to start a project and plate it WG, and he does it. He doesn't ask me 10 questions about other metals. He knows what people want and just does it. I guess you can be overly neurotic about it, Yogi but at the end of the day, I don't think anyone is trying to get scientific. We just want something that is going to work on a sub-thousand-dollar rep.
