True mate. But there are several factors to take into consideration.
I agree that if your socioeconomic status doesn’t make it plausible that you could afford the RM you are wearing. But some RMs are astronomical in price while others are not. So depends on that too. And if people at all know the price.

It is also an unknown brand. Many people don’t know the prices or the brand. And Hublot has begun to make RM look alike’s.

So I don’t think people will be laughing ‘there comes the fool with the fake RM’ :D :D

Good point - not sure how well known that brand is while everyone most people know Rolex, Omega and maybe Breitling. Although I get the feeling that even "specialist brands" are getting more exposure due to Instagram these days.

In Scandinavia it’s not so known. But yes IG does a lot these days. Doesn’t show the price but shows celebrities and sports people etc wearing them, thereby giving the impression.
I reckon If you have a interest in tennis you would know it for sure.

But I don’t know if you generally are more exposed for what other people think wearing a RM rep versus fx a gen Rolex. Most people will think about Rolex’ that they are fake. Even I’ve heard ordinary people with no watch knowledge think that about gen Rolex’. Like people would almost always assume that a LV bag is fake. And I think it is because Rolex is the Louis Vuitton of watches. As it is one of the most repped brand.

Read my post again and eventually, you'll get what I'm saying... ;)

I know full well what you were saying, and I repeat my previous comment that I don’t understand why people with this opinion are in this hobby. People who are obsessed with avoiding getting “called out” shouldn’t wear reps, full stop.

Quit caring what everyone else thinks, wear what you like, end of! If you keep letting other peoples opinions stop you from enjoying your life then really are you even living?!

Ive been wearing reps of some of the highest end brands, RM, Patek, AP etc, for the last eight years.... know how many times I’ve been called out?!?

ZERO!!!!!

quite enjoyable post, mate. It is always refreshing to read about the core of this enthusiasm from time to time when it gets absent so easily when one really focusses on the gen counterpart and its obtainability in relation to the variables that our dear jm_brc_7057 already pointed out.

Reading your comment with the wonderful journey that lays behind the watch on your profile picture i have to say it is even more delightful in a motivating way to keep on striving for the pure joy in this game - in this very playful game of course.

Thanks for that.

Appreciate that buddy.

I accept that it’s probably not my place to tell people how to enjoy this hobby, but I do get so frustrated at the constant comments about “I could never wear [this or that watch] because I’d get called out”. Just don’t know why you’d bother if you feel like that. So basically you can only wear a Rolex Submariner?! You’re just gonna miss out of some fantastic watches!!

We all want our watches to be close to gen, but it’s nothing to do with wanting to fool people into thinking you own the real thing. You mentioned my 6270 project, that’s an $800,000 watch, and it’s not that close to gen, but we tried our best to make it look like the real thing. Not because we want people to think we are millionaires, but because we love the real watch but could never own it!

Thats what rep collecting is about for me.

Anyway, rant over, as you were :)

Yeah I kinda agree, we’ve been talking about the ZF RM011 for years now and they keep getting distracted with these other models. The RM035 I can kinda understand as it’s an immensely popular model, but these other faux tourbillon models are not as popular as the RM011, they’d shift a lot more RM011s and at a higher price if they just got on and made it!!

There so many other RM with various tiers of bizarreness that are better than the 52 which i can’t comprehend why the obsession with that.

rm67 would be such a nice RM and given the non gaudy style would be such a potential hot seller.. but i work in IT and not in fake watches marleting so ...

Exactly! People just need to stop caring about what other people think. I wore my rep RM055 whilst driving around in an old Honda Civic. I'm also just a uni student, so while wearing a luxury watch (Rolex, PAM, etc) isn't that uncommon in my university, a Richard Mille is.

I didn't really give a fuck about it, I just wore what I liked. I've never been called out, except for friends who I openly tell them that some of my watches are reps. I also borrow my dad's gens from time to time, depending on what I feel like wearing that day.

Oh wait, I did get called out once by this smug bastard. He told my friend that the Panerai I was wearing was fake. The thing is, that was my dad's gen PAM676 so it kinda made me laugh. This was when I realized how clueless most people are about reps vs gens.

TLDR: wear what you like, stop caring about the opinions of other people lmao
