As new member I can say the navigation here is a bit confusing. It is not always easy to find the last thread you need.

Also the search engine is not really good. I often can not find what I am exactly looking for. Sometimes I switch to google and have better results for this forum.

I found this forum 3 weeks ago an I am reading silently and it is getting better and better. But I also found my self searching and searching and did not find it.

Maybe an additional tree within each brand for a model would be better. Or clear rules for posting a new thread like [brand - model - reference number - manufacturer rep - Version] -->
e.g. "Rolex Air-King 116900 Noob V2".
I think most of the newer guys are just looking for newest version of their wanted standard watch. No one of the 700 "franken"-threads, no broken whatever-threads, no special version of whatever.

I am also active in other forums and i know how annoying new members can be. But with a bit of standardization you will eliminate 90% of the really dumb questions.

Bonjour,

I think it's normal to ask for validation of QC pics ,especially for neewbies.
-there are specialists here who can see details i miss .
-I think about buying a planet ocean but i never saw a gen one!
-if the thread is named "QC pics" you just have to don't click on it ...

By the way...some people like to check other's QC pics ;-)

It's not normal, because the purpose of QC is not to nitpick, but just to make sure you are getting the watch your ordered and not something else, if you miss a detail, then it shouldn't matter.
Like in a gen, imagine you look at it, like it and buy it, but after that you notice something on the dial that you don't really like, you can't return it for that reason most of the time (especially if it's not a brand new one).

As new member I can say the navigation here is a bit confusing. It is not always easy to find the last thread you need.

It's not made to be easy, it's a forum, so it requires research to find something. See the forum as an active encyclopedia, initial creators of RWI made the choice of a forum so that there's interesting discussions, they could have gone for a wiki based, but while this would have been easier to search it would have been less interesting for discussion and sharing

This is a tool and like any tool it take a bit of time to know how to use it, as you noticed :)

Sometimes I switch to google and have better results for this forum

Most of the time, Google will yield better results indeed, the search system is not very good but it's how the software is built unfortunately

This could be done, but to be well done, should require to move all the concerned topic in the new sections, a lot of work but not impossible to do, I'll write that down in my potential stuff to do :)

That Boomer vs Millennial shit is getting so old, those generation things were never intented to be used like that, they are statistical data nothing more. People can't seriously believe that someone born in 1944 and someone born in 1964 will have the same culture, standard, education, social skills.
This is just one more tool to divide people, the only real way of mass population control.

Truth has been rightly said before by efajri it's technology the culprit : instant gratification, instant everything in a society where young people have less thing to believe in, a darker future than previous ones, they crave thing that make them feel instantaneously better or important and they don't realize the consequences of this, we've all grown more individualist than before, it's "me before the others".

Fortunately, they grow out of that at some point (some do).

It's not NORMAL and it's AGAINST THE FORUM RULES . You are obviously a card carrying member of the the ' MORON SQUAD ' the OP describes .

I don't find any information I need to find about various watches hard to find . Perhaps you find the whole process difficult because you are a moron ? Just a thought .

By FEAR you mean the poster is so clueless he can't draw on his own council and needs other people to QC the watch for him . Which is lazy !
All the information about the watch you want to buy is on this site , you just need to take your time and find it . This should prompt further Google searches into both the rep and the genuine watch , this combined means in a short amount of time you should be an ' expert' on the watch . Therefore know exactly what to look for when you get your QC's. Asking for other people's council and not doing your research is therefore LAZY .

Lets not be calling people names OK ?

Yep sorry but some the threads lately have been ridiculous, and bouleto's response to the OP typifies them . I will stop reading this thread and leave everyone to it .

My personal opinion....... After having been here for 6+ years, I still have a tough time tracking what "the best sub" consensus may be at any given moment. So many makers, with so many versions and so many opinions on tells, flaws, issues. I can't imagine some newbie coming in here and trying to get to a level of detailed knowledge that would allow them to avoid asking for help.

Certainly, there are many who find the site, do no research at all and immediately start asking basic questions. Those are typically easy to identify. Others however, are simply overwhelmed by the amount of info to sort through.

I typically try to guide newbies to start off with a less expensive version of the rep they want, so they can see how amazingly good, even those are today. That gives them a baseline to start gaining experience and knowledge, while still be active in the hobby.

I do often feel bad when some newb joins, asked a relatively basic question and is immediately pig-piled on. All that does is create negative first impressions for both them and us.

pcardoza Good post. I see two types of new members. The overwhelmed group doesn't mind putting the time necessary to learn the process of buying Reps. For them, I will do all I can to help these members. The other group of 1 post wonders doesn't want to do the hard work. They just want to be spoon-fed. When I first joined I was overwhelmed so I just keep my head down and spent two months reading before I even dared to make a post.

Creating too fine directory structures creates confusion when someone wants to compare e.g. a Big Pilot vs. Big Pilot LPP/Ceramic, the same model from different factories or two different models (Sub Vs. No Date)...

I signed up only a few weeks ago and find the information for new members to be very well structured and highlighted. There's great FAQ threads for the general approach to getting your first rep, how the rep business works, payment, the best reps models and so on. Many forums aren't even close to that level of gathered information IMHO.

This is just one more tool to divide people, the only real way of mass population control.

It'a true that all people will have a different culture, standard, upbringing, education, and social skills, however, as a large generalization, the 'boomer' generation developed their opinions, experienced culture, and were brought up, taught, and endowed with social skills during a time period in which things were largely different than they are today. I think it is fair to say that there is a huge difference in the way that people who were 18 in the 50's and people who were 18 in the 90's or early 2000's have experienced the world, because so much has changed. 'Boomers' came of age in a time of plenty, when just working hard and earning a middle class salary were enough to provide a house, food, security, and good education for your children. Getting a college education was your road to a good job with a pension that would carry you into retirement, and allow you to live comfortably.

I would argue it just isn't like that anymore, and has not been for some time.

The friction comes in when people whose life was like that can't see that things have changed and accuse the younger generations of being lazy or wanting everything handed to them, etc. It's no longer true that hard work and dedication to your job will provide you with enough money to live on. It's no longer true that education and a college degree is a sure path to a career and a job, and pensions are a thing of the past.

Lots of reasons that this has some truth to it.
