I was wondering if anyone has bought one of these fake brass glass ball clock sold on ebay. They are branded as rolex or omega, they are obviously fake but for the price I was thinking about getting one. I just wonder if they do really work.

Actually I don't mind putting a quartz movement inside that glass. It would still look good on my desktop.

It also has the A6497 movement which is nice but of course a bigger cost from the $8 quartz. Would be a nice addition to the desk.

Which US$8 quartz are you talking about? AFAIK All these are mechanic.

I'm sorry, but that looks really bad. The crown is not centered, the chain ring (?) is crooked, it's definitely NOT real brass, looks like the glass is not set in evenly, dial looks of paper.
I know it's cheap. But it looks bad before cheap.
Unless of course you're going to mod it....

I did not notice what you mention. Do you think the movement can be trusted?

Modding this stuff with a handmade no brand dial might be interesting.

I purchased one of these ball clocks and it looks like a magnifying glass orb and has a mechanical movement.

Yes, it works correctly. It has to be wound once a day and is a little fast...maybe, five minutes a day. It's a nice, eclectic item that my family and friends have commented on positively when they first noticed it. My only complaint is that the print on mine is a little off centre.
