Erratic movement

At the end of last year, I bought a bobandshawn Rolex 1680 red Submariner.

I wore it daily for two months and it ran to COSC standards! One evening about a month ago, I noticed the time was incorrect (significantly) so I set it and monitored it over the evening (on my wrist). I saw it was running +15 MINUTES/day! After a bit of research, I figured it was probably magnetized, and the compass test indicated this (though not conclusively). So I ordered a demagnetizer from Amazon, it arrived on Tuesday, and I demagnetized the watch.

I set it and wore it Tuesday evening and saw that, on the wrist, it continued to run very fast (still +15 minutes/day or more). I wore it all night to wind it up, reset it before I went to sleep, then placed it, crystal up, in my watch drawer. When I checked it Wednesday morning, it was running -20 seconds! I put it on, intending to wear it for the day, but noticed, after about an hour of wearing it, that it had gained several minutes!

So it seems that on the wrist, the watch runs extremely fast, but off the wrist, crystal side up, it runs pretty well. What the heck? Any help would be appreciated. Here's a movement shot (engraving is 2838 which, I know, is a bit of an enigma).

No criticism of bobandshawn. He's a great seller, a great modder and a great guy. He's expressed concern over one of his watches running so poorly and has offered help, but he admits he's not a horologist.

Who can help me get this watch back into my rotation?

Thanks

15mins a day would suggest a fouled hair-spring to me, however, I don't think the change in orientation would do anything for this... I'll keep an eye on this thread to find out the answer!

Good luck.

Thanks Alex. The GMT is out of commission too due to a movement retaining screw lost in the movement. It's heading out for repair shortly. Still love it, though!

Sounds like some rough luck there, I hope you get them both fixed soon!

If I remember correctly, the 2838 ETA was exclusively used by Swatch Company as an in-house movement...therefore not very common. Unfortunately, it's the reason I had to use one of the plastic Chinese movement holders because there are no holes drilled for screws and tabs.

Yep youre right Bob, Swatch proprietary there.

And Blind-m, although it is very hard to tell by your picture, not enough resolution, it does appear that your hair spring has jumped out of regulator curb pins

A good clean and oiling should fix 'm up! I'm sure a watchmaker can get it running like a horse again.

I think so.

the hairspring should follow the red path.
what concerns me is is the bend in th blue area, not sure if that is supposed to be like that or not.

believe it can be fixed. had a movement with a hairspring changed due to damage during delivery. sourcing the parts required is the main problem.
