Black case PAM

Hi all,

I’ve been contemplating a Black Luminor Marina, but wondered if anyone has had experience with black cases, do they scratch to reveal the silver below? Any experiences or general wear pics?

Hello.

In general, the PVD coating is quite durable, the DLC is even more resistant.
Black ceramic models are understandably subject to change less than any metal model.

Regarding PVD, I would describe it as follows: I did not damage the coating without mechanical impact (hit, a hold on a metal object or something else).

By itself, it shouldn't wear out, but as a coating, you can damage it. It all depends on how you use the watch. Personally, I think that with the treatment that a mechanical watch deserves, you won't run into problems.

Thanks buddy much appreciated. Ceramic seems the way forward. I was in a Panerai store the other day and they mentioned carbon fibre cases, Do you know if reps of those exist, or are worth looking into?

This is another option. Its like a carbon looking ceramic. This one is VSF 1661 Panerai great option.

Beautiful. I want a very similar one, with the “old school/ vintage looking beige numerals. I’ve reached out to a TD, but waiting on RWI to see if anything pops up as I’ve got 2x in transit already ????. Great watch

Lot's of Models to choose from:

44mm:

Ceramic: 438 or 441 with beige numerals. Also 661 and 1441 (not recommended, as quite thicker than Gen)

Carbon/other composite materials: 1118, 1661 ot maybe 1663 - those are more technical and modern looking so probably not exactly what you're looking for.


47mm submersibles:

616, 1616, 979

All of the above are readily available.

I would correct and add a little.

In ceramics, currently out of production are possible: PAM292, PAM643, PAM508, PAM580, PAM607, and VSF models that may or may not be sold, their availability is now very flexible: PAM438, PAM441 and PAM1441, which, in fact, exceeds GEN in thickness, in fact .

Speaking of carbotech, these are PAM616, PAM661, PAM1616, PAM1661, PAM960, PAM961, PAM979, PAM1039, PAM1118 and finally the PAM799, which only has a carbotech bezel, same as PAM1663, which should be fibratech, but carbotech bezel (rep is made entirely of carbotech, same as PAM1119 but different texture and color)

And there are a huge number of PVD and DLC black models left, the actual ones of which are only HWF: PAM629 and PAM779. There are a lot out of production at the moment, but I won't list them all, just buy them if you see m2m. It doesn't go through often, but dozens of models have been made.

I still choose the 1441 over the 441. While thicker at 16mm (gen is 14.5mm) it is still thinner than the towering 18mm of the VSF 441 (gen 17.5mm). At this point it is comfort over accuracy. Also the closed caseback of the 1441 is a plus in my book.

Also, I believe the VSF composite models 1118, 1661 etc are 18.5mm in thickness, way over the 14.5mm of the gen.

Old school 360 V2 (I believe?).

This one is harder to find since it is out of production. The coating is extremely close to the gen. There are a few scratches here and there, but it holds up very well.

This is a fantastic watch, I have one. But unlike most people, I hate the strap, it looks great but it feels horrible to me. Hard to replace, though.

How so? Its same as any watch. Just get in there between the band and watch to push the pin in and out it pops. I switch between the rubber and the original. But a great watch indeed.

I meant that its hard to find a replacement that looks as good but doesn't feel so crap on my wrist, sorry )
