Hello,
I've been after a decent AP Royal Oak homage for years !
The best homage I have seen on the internet is this bullova: however it is extremely rare and practically impossible to find at a decent price.
There is one for sale on eBay uk at the moment but I ain't paying £1000GBP for it!
So, I'm thinking of building a Royal Oak homage using a 15202 quartz from toro, as the base:
Pic borrowed from RWG.bz
^The case is 39mm and the movement is Quartz.
So here's the plan....I want a "homage/fantasy" watch (non AP branded) that looks like it's straight outta the 70s/80s (genta era).
What I have in mind is buying the 15202 from toro (or whoever) and then transplanting in a vintage '70s gen dial/hands (possibly quarts movement as well) combo from another cheaper brand (eg. Seiko, Rado, Tissot, sterile etc).
So here are the questions:
1. Will any 39mm Quartz watch hands fit on to the Quartz movement found in the rep 15202? How can i confirm compatibility before buying the vintage donor gen?
2. How likely is it that any 39mm vintage dial/hands/movement combo will transplant directly into the 15202 case and align with crown height etc. Again how do I check parts compatibility before buying the donor gen
3. Any other tips in helping me source a gen vintage 70s dial/hands/movement combo, that'll fit into the 15202 rep case?
Ive seen plenty of "39mm vintage Quartz watches" on eBay etc (dirt cheap) ..... but how would I know whether the dial/hands combo will fit into my 15202 case?
I really don't know jack about Quartz movements and how dials are attached to them so any tips would be much appreciated?
Thanks
Mech
