Hi people,

I always wanted to do a full review for the stunning looking Chopard GTXL rep. Hope I'm not too late.

Anyway, here you are and I hope you like it.

Firstly, the gen has 2 models to this watch. Main difference are the colour of the dial (black or white) and the caseback (Display for the black dial and closed for the white dial).

1920137988_fdce8eccee.jpg

The rep factory has produced 4 versions to this rep altogether. Let's see what are the differences between them.

Version 1

Movement: Can't remember but probably the old Asian 7750 with 21,600bph

Plus point:

1-Engraved text on rotor
*Note : This is the only version that came with engraved rotor. All the version after this version use the stickers
2-Correct date font
3-Good cyclop mag power

1919311411_f374e625eb.jpg

Incorrect white background datewheel on both black and white dial

1920138692_49a11d34fd_o.jpg

Look at the incorrect “painted black†engravement on the deployant and the uneven gap spacing between the crown.

**Pics from Trusty & jb from RWI

Flaws:

1-Minute numerals font too thin
2-White date wheel
3-Short second hand
4-No AR,
5-Wrong deployant (the engraved word shouldn't be painted black)
6-The crown has the word "1000" & "miglia" stamped in the wrong direction.
7-Gap between the crown is uneven. This was because Asian 21J movement is smaller than A7750 so the position of the stem sit lower. This is why the crown has to be shifted to one side more.

Version 2

Movement: New Asian 7750 with 28,800bph (same as what the gen is using except it is a swiss movement)

1920139874_14f1ef7f50_m.jpg

Plus point:
1-Date wheel is corrected to black
2-Correct date font and good date mag
3-The AR is very strong on this one (as good as breit's steelfish)
4-The minute numerals font look close to the gen
5-Second hand length is correct
6-Correct deployant
7-The word "1000" & "miglia" are stamped in the correct direction
8-Sweet vanilla scent from the dunlop styled strap (same as gen)
9-Rotor spin well and not noisy

1920140708_b38d3466df_m.jpg

Flaws:
1-Instead of engraving font on rotor. Sticker was used instead
2-Second hand movement is a bit jerky (BTW, I don't see this as a flaw as the gen's behave the same way)

Version 3

Movement: Asian 21J

The rep factory released this cheaper version (My guess is version 2 didn't sell well because of the price was steep)

Plus point:

1-Correct black date wheel
2-Date font
3-Good cyclop mag power.

Flaws:
1-Short second hand
2-Minute numerals font too thin
3-Wrong deployant (the engraved word shouldn't be painted black)
4-The crown has the word "1000" & "miglia" stamped in the wrong direction
5-No AR
6-Sitcky and lower quality tyre lines rubber strap
7-Gaps between the crown are uneven. This was because Asian 21J movement is smaller than A7750 so the position of the stem sit lower. This is why the crown has to be shifted to one side more.
8-Rotor look different (extra screws in the rep)
9-Noisy rotor

Let's compare with the gen and see the differences

1919310739_b4d62dcf00.jpg

Notice the length of the second hand and minute numerals. See any difference?

1920138692_49a11d34fd_o.jpg

Look at the incorrect “painted black†engravement on the deployant and the uneven gap spacing between the crown.

1920139514_f6e8900dc2.jpg

Notice the “extra screws†on the rep rotor?

Version 4

Movement: Asian 21J

The rep factory improved further on version 3 by throwing in AR crystal.

Plus point:
1-Correct black date wheel
2-Date font
3-Good cyclop mag power
4- AR coating.

Flaws:
1-Short second hand
2-Minute numerals font too thin
3-Wrong deployant (the engraved word shouldn't be painted black)
4-The crown has the word "1000" & "miglia" stamped in the wrong direction
5-Sitcky and low quality rubber strap.
6-Rotor looks different (extra screws on the rep)
7-Noisy rotor

Except AR coating, version 4 still share the same flaws as version 3. See comparison pics above.

There are ultimate PO, ultimate PAM92, SFSO... For Chopard GTXL, version 2 is ultimately the best made IMO. Although the price is much more expensive, it really feels like the real thing. The black dial is more accurate if compared to the white dial rep because the display caseback is an immediate deadgiveaway.

Let's see the side by side comparison pics

1919312605_c3833faa53.jpg

Spot on!!! Same second hand length & “fatterâ€minute numerals font

1919313393_ce45040b4a.jpg

Almost spot on. The gen has some movement description engraved while it is missing on the rep.

1920141432_4af4a028ef_m.jpg

"1000" & "miglia" stamped in the correct direction

1920142518_39ea999933_m.jpg

Spot on!!! Correct deployant on the rep with non sticky rubber strap that has a sweet vanilla scent just like the gen

1920365056_1c9ddd1353_m.jpg

Super nice AR coating

1919314399_0ae8e0520c_o.jpg

Right pic – Where is the crystal? Super AR make it disappear

In Summary, all the above versions are well made. But version 2 is still the best IMHO.

Thanks for viewing.

Thanks for the review. I guess I bought version #4 but I didn't realize all the flaws until you pointed them out.

Re: Chopard GTXL full review

I currently own the version two white face GTXL, and I just went to the AD (looking at the La Strada for my fiancée). They had the white face GTXL there, but it was silver (the AD told me it has always been only in silver)...and I can't seem to find a pic ANYWHERE of the GTXL with a white face. If the cheaper 21j version is always a silver dial, this is a BIG tell for a pretty expensive rep. I knew I should have gotten the black face!!! And now that the new GMT has a nice closed caseback, I was hoping to get it for my GTXL to add to it's accuracy...no point if the face is supposed to be silver... What do you guys think? I'm still a newbie and this is one of my first reps, please tell me it can be in white too!
