Mystery Rolex "Rep"

Hi all,

Using the word rep very loosely here. Picked up this bad boy in Abu Dhabi when visiting friends out there in 2009 and apart from about 1 weeks worth of wear, it has been tucked away in a draw, until my dad needed a beater for work (he is a builder), at which point it was driven to him and gifted.

If I remember rightly, I think I only paid about 180 dirhams (£30) for it, and judging from what I know now, I can see why!

Disclaimer: I knew NOTHING about watches when this was bought. I don't know much now, but it does remind me of a decent holiday

Would love to know everyone's thoughts on it, what it possibly could have been based on way back when. Or you know, have a great laugh

It's based on the 6062 (as it says on the caseback), 6036 and maybe the 6236, and definitely the mind of a very confused/lazy rep designer!

I think many people have had moments like this. Mine happened back in 2000(?) at various night time street markets in Hong Kong and I went on a random buying frenzy before I knew anything about watches, genuine or otherwise. I did a draw rummage the other day and found a rogue Breitling 'Aviamatic' with no sub dials and a Rolex Yachtmaster with a black dial face. They were at least mechanical and the Breitling appears to still work! You're quite right though, stumbling across these souvenirs certainly reminded me of a good trip

I still remember having to go through the rigmarole of having to ask to see the watches, then asking again to see "the watches" and then the shop person pulling out a secret draw, with a cloth over it to see them. With the ease of the TDs here, it seems ridiculous.

Thanks for the info Zero. Punched it in to google and in the images there is an identical one being sold out of Karachi, Pakistan.
