Hey guys,
Hope everyone is keeping safe and staying at home polishing their watch collection and washing their hands!

A U-boat ref 7126 has come up for sale locally on Facebook, looks stunning. Unfortunately he has told me he bought it whilst on holiday in 2015 and as the box was so heavy he didn't bother bringing it back so has no box or paperwork.

I have never seen a rep of this model U-boat, only chimera's, 1001's and base classico's but I know the rep world is HUGE so hoping some U-boat enthusiast is looking at this and hopefully able to tell me if iv stumbled across a gem or not?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

I can't help with whether or not this is gen... it looks gen to me but I don't own one so I can'tsay for sure. What I can tell you is buy the seller, not the watch.

In other words, do you believe his story?

Heavy box or not, I'd have shipped the box and papers home if I had to. I mean, a watch person knows the value of box and papers... I have box and papers for watches 1/10th the value of that one. It would have to be one heck of a believable story for me to risk it... or I'd have to REALLY want the watch and be willing to accept that it might be fake.

I know some people who chuck box and papers on high end gens, but they never expect to sell them... so it's possible I guess.
Just my 2 cents

Many thanks for your reply, great advice.

Yeah, I bought a Raymond Weil many years ago in Barbados, it cost me the equivalent of £800. I still have the watch, it was my first gen Swiss watch, but I left the box and papers behind at the ad when I purchased, never even crossed my mind to ask the box/papers to be shipped to me, I just wanted the watch.

Now that £800 many years ago would equate to a lot more in today's money given inflation, salary increase etc. And I am by no means wealthy so I can see why people would leave them behind.

He seems a legit guy who has a good reason for selling and is even willing to let me take the watch to an indipendant jeweler and have it checked out, the problem is is that I don't have a local ad for U-boat that I can go to, or any jeweler for that matter whilst on lockdown. would any capable watch maker be able to verify it genuine by removing the case back? My watchmaker is still working from home and always happy to help me out if he can.

Thanks again.

Stay safe ????

Happy Easter, if the watchmaker is working from home it will be tricky to have it sent to him by a seller who doesn't even know him. If you can get it to him, any watchmaker should be able to tell the difference between the real thing and the fake.

Good news,

I managed to pick up the watch and drop it to my watchmaker who has confirmed it houses a Swiss movement and is confident it's genuine.
So IV pulled the trigger and snapped it up. It's a beauty.

One thing that I am very pleasantly surprised with is that I was under the impression that with the black hour markers and hands I would be without lume, however I woke up late last night and through force of habit checked my watch for the time, and behold the black markers magically glow!!! Wow!! I was so excited I struggled to get back to sleep. Haha
It's a fairly decent lume as well, comparable to my Panerai's.

All in all a very comfortable watch that feels and looks great. I like the way the 12, 4 & 8 markers are applied proud on the face but the sausage hour markers are cut out like a sandwich dial. The quality of the strap is stunning.

I'd recommend anyone who likes big watches to pop a U-boat on the 'to try' list.

Thanks for your nice comments gents

I did a little research and this is a ltd edition so difficult to find one for sale to compare prices etc.
I'd say it's probably worth circa £1500.

I managed to haggle the seller down to a fraction of that and picked this beauty for rep money!

We'll see how long it stays on my wrist but I can see this being a keeper, might even get me looking at their bronzo models, some really nice looking pieces.

Wherever you are in the world, stay safe, wash your hands, keep that favourite timepiece on and wear it in good health.
We're gonna beat this virus soon watch friends.

Great pickup there! Definitely a keeper. I've been always fascinated with Chimera Bronze LTD. Unfortunately the attempt to replicate this model failed miserably. Here's the model
