I had heard the assosiation with the 1655 was a mistake from an Italian journalist that somehow caught on. Also apparently McQueen had said about the 1655 " it's nice! "

Thanks! It could well be true that it was a mistake since there isn't any photos I could find of Steve McQueen actually wearing ANY Explorer, much less the 1655.
