I'm thinking of taking a 44mm case, having it DLC'd or at least PVD'd, putting a plain (or at most, marina militare, but certainly no brand marking) base black dial with either green or even yellowish-white numeral PRE-V dial and giving it gold hands.

good or bad? it's been my dream watch. at first i wanted to have my RXW MM20 PVD'd and black hands put on but then realized that 47mm watches are just too big...at least for me.

but do you guys think the plain dial, gold hands and PVD will work?

Absolutely I think it'll look great. I'm getting ready to order a PVD Destro-style MM20 from Davidsen very soon, I've never had a 47mm so it'll be interesting to see how I like it.

Davidsen can certainly build this for you if you don't want to do it yourself, I'm sure.

I don't know about the gold hands. They have a real vintage vibe to them especially with the stainless of the case. I think the beauty of the PVD's with the black hands is the serious "instrument" look they have going on.

Hey, if you wannt to then go for it! It could end up the best thing going!

I'm with you on the no branding deal. That would be sweet!

i have the same doubt about the gold hands myself. i love them, love the vintage feel, and i guess the pvd, plain dial, crown guard and big "tuna" case and gold hands--at least considered separately--are my favorite elements of these watches and what made me buy a real panerai (followed by reps) in the first place. but not sure if the combination of my dream elements necessarily works.

and yes, i think the no branding is a nice touch...one reason i've always liked the vintage and even RXW marina militare's.

thanks for the input!

The gold hands may be a problem in a 44mm case. All the gold hands that I know of are for the 47mm cases.

I actually think there is a picture floating around of a PAM 195 prototype that had gold hands. If you can find it, it should give you a really good idea of what yours might look like.

You're right. In fact, I've seen that picture, and could never decide if the watch sang to me. In many ways it did. Worse case, I could always switch out the hands for black ones.

If I'm not mistaken, Davidsen has gold hands listed for 111:

Maybe I can have him make/sell me the franken-watch i seek. It appears he has all the parts: plain vintage dial for 44mm, gold hands and PVD cases! I'm happier everyday that I found this site!

Cheers.

That may be a typo since the 127 hands he has listed are blue  , but then again he does have stuff you can't find everyday.

oh man, pre-mature excitement on my part...and a real party killer for men past their teens like me!

i hope he has (or can get) them. i now have my heart set on getting this thing made, and seeing if davidsen can help me do it.
