Thoughts on best movements?

So, I'm looking for my first rep right now - enjoying learning a lot about horology and reps.

Just wondering, what do you guys consider the best types of movements available in reps? Now I am talking about specifically for a mechanical watch that may or may not just have the date too.. (it will have the date too for sure)

Would love it if you guys could state the best movements for Manual hand-wound watches and the best for Automatic self-winding watches? (I'm still deciding between the 2)
