I presume they're taking kick-backs for something. This probably falls in the "No Politics" category, apart from the fact no-one gets it. Still, some people are bound to seethe and froth up and go on an anti-Bush Administration ranting rampage about how the Plame case is a bigger crime, etc., but you never know.

Actually the Plame case would be classified as a no-crime as she hadn't been "covert" (CIA classification) within five years previous to the act that revealed her employment with the CIA. The Intelligence Identities And Protection Act would not apply.

Yes, I don't know all the details about Jack Abramoff, but he was a Washington lobbyist that funneled money to many politicians. His lobbying activities were probably many, but the scandals surround his lobbying on the behalf of American Indian tribes and their desires to open casinos. Tom Delay is the biggest politician currently linked to Jack Abramoff and has since decided to not seek reelection for his seat in The House of Representatives even though he had already won the primary in a heavily Republican district. Speculation is he didn't want to be a story during the election cycle. To be fair, he had already been forced to give up his leadership position as House Majority Leader (second most powerful position in that body after Speaker) so he probably didn't want to go back to being one of the 400 something nameless congresspeople.

Let's try to avoid the political "commentary" here..........unless you want to turn this board into the spectacle that other boards have become, OK?

I think politics can be discussed in a civil manner and I like these kind of posts as they often get a lot of reactions and people participating, but if it's against the rules let's do away with this thread.

No, they're certainly not banned, but past history has shown that many of them turn into "us vs. them" heated discussions that lead to nothing but hostility or hurt feelings. That's why I suggested that these topics be "avoided".

So far, we have not had the problems that have driven members from other boards, and that says a lot about our membership. As long as it remains civil, no problem, but I really don't see the need to elicit "reactions" from members regarding topics that many people take very seriously.

This was more of a joke than anything. It was an ad parody from BrokeBack Mountain. I am a staunch, ultra-conservative republican, and if anything I was taking swings at my own party. i was not trying to get people 'assed up', or hurt anybodies feelings. I saw it last night and I thought that it was rather funny.
