The Huge GPF 2-56 Egiziano Divers watch from 1956 is wel known and admired within the Vintage Afficianados Circle.
Difficult to overlook With It's 66mm Case!
But It seems It's Israeli Advesery while even bigger at 68x68mm Is overlooked!?
Or did the Israeli Navy kept it A better secret?
(Just like Their Combat Swimmers unit)

The Aluminum Case Looks quite simular to the Egyptian GPF (left) The Feature that makes it larger over the Egiziano is the Turning Bezel Arestor Device on the left almost A mirror Design to the CG on the Right.

Notice the sectioned Hour and Minute Hands!
Also no seconds hand, Would that indicate that A Rolex Cal618 was used? That would be A set back Against the Egyptian Angelus 240 8 days Movement!
The Egiziano is more estethical in design (It formed the inspiration for the Pam187 Submersible)

Aluminium is certainly No quality material for A Divers watch. This particular model was never used in action, Otherwise it would have looked quite beat up. Did Aluminum Give the Secret Israeli Combat swimmers A slight Advance Speed and in Underwater Hand to hand Combat, Over their Egyptian Rivals?

Just like British Rolex suplied Both Axis and Allies with Military Timepieces, Panerai kept up the tradition with these Military Divers For two enemy states. (Would they have known That the suplier dealth with the Oponent?)

Ok Photos finally posted!

Regards,
Kees

Thanks for the post! I love the history of Panerai.

IMHO, I prefer the esthetics of the Israeli (Minus the bezel lock crown guard thingy). I prefer the squared off bezel design and cleaner dial of the Israeli.

How many of the Israeli Panerais were made?

I wouldn't be surprised if the number made for Secret Isreali Navy Combat swimmers is A Secret

Sensetive subject, Supliyng two enemy's with A simmular product.

Oh well British Rolex Secretly Suplied the Radiomir to both Italian Regia Marina and Kriegsmarine, Also Their Timers for their Torpedoes!
