Hi, thought i'd post up a few phone pics i've personally taken around Singapore that perhaps you'll think as funny as i did. Mostly in the same vein as "Engrish". but some are just the differences between cultures/languages when it comes to naming.
Firstly. Chewing gum is illegal in Singapore but I thought they would be a bit more relaxed about what you might get up to in the privacy of your own bedroom:
Whoever titled this brand has clearly never been to the west. I hear they're coming out with a new range for males called "Wanka"
(this one may be a colloquialism that only Aussies get...). You've seen Chewing cum and Wanko, I now present Singapore Jizz:
It's bigger on the inside:
These are darn good brownies. The proof isn't in the eating. It's written right there!
Say what now? I'm just glad they were happy:
Someone in China got their typo making hand cut off for this:
Yes lah! It's Kickapoo Joy Juice:
Ok, so this is a hand warming Bulldog puppy. Follow the diagram in the first pic. You put your left hand in its mouth...
Guess where your other hand goes?
Ok, so this one is actually Pinglish (from the Philippines). I checked and mine was all clear thankfully :
And finally, found down at Bugis Junction - the mother of all Singlish. The small type at the bottom reads 'my love will reach any distance' (actually "Amy distma"). Apparently that pledge doesn't extend as far as Google Translate.
Hopefully no offence will be taken by locals. I direct any Singaporean business owners towards Singapore's own Speak Good English Movement (let me help with that... *"Speak English well") who get it right at least half the time. http://www.goodenglish.org.sg/
