Review - Audemars Piguet ROO Survivor (GEN vs REP)

Finally I found some time to made a mini review of comparison between the AP ROO Survivor Gen vs Rep side by side

Some informations about the watch :
This timepiece was launched at the end of 2008 as the limited edition in only a 1,000 pieces
Fitted with a blackened and perforated titanium case, a grooved ceramic bezel and chrono pushers in ceramic with titanium guards
Diameter : 42 mmThickness: 15,65 mmWater resistance : 100 m

I bought the Rep on Puretime in 2013, I think it's a version manufactured by Noob I don’t remembre.

I will start with Pictures, I let you judge by yourself and then you find my comments at the end

The Rep is always on the left and top.

I’ve hade the Gen last month and I can tell you that I am realy impressed by the quality of the RepOverall, the watch is replicated to a very high standard except the date wheel and placement.

It's hard to spot the Rep, The only way you would is to have them side by side and seek to find a difference

The weight and thickness are almost the same for me, I do not have the measurements tool
The rubber strap is excellent and comfortableThe case back is very close to each other,
I'am not an expert, but I found the following difference

1 -The DW and DW position is off on the Rep
2 - The dial is a little brighter on the Rep
3 -The case is also more brighter on the Rep and à little bit darker on the Gen, on the Gen also there is a brushing like not very noticable.
4 - The chrono pussher is bigger on the Rep
5 - the buckle is more brighter on the Rep
6 - The crystal is better on the Gen, but it is very good on the Rep
7 - The Tachymetre font is a little bit different

The flaws on are minimal. It is not perfect, but it still a replica
Gen price : 38000$
Rep price : 700$

I am soooooo impressed by the level of details that the rep has, just like the gen... honestly, other than the DW font and position, I think it is hard to pick up all the differences on the wrist without a magnifying glass and having both in your hand to compare..

Thank you again for a lovely post, you made me want to dust off mine from the watch box and wear it for this week.. you made me fall in love with it all over again.. I think a little cyclops and DW font upgrades and this baby will come as close as possible on the wrist to a $38,000 Survivor.

Lol I'm doing my best godfathar. The rep survivor has a wrong datewheel position and improving that would be more valuable I feel.

True, but there is not much you can do about it, unless you are willing to spend a fortune to change the position. which I haven't seen anyone do as of yet, and you have many experts here.

I think it is much more complicated than just swapping a dial.. if you can find one to begin with anyway

Yes, in this hobby, things are measured in mm.. I am working on a mod on one rep survivor belonging to a friend. The mission would be to solve the datewheel position issue. To me, this model is a very accurate one, and the mostly black case, dial and strap do a lot to conceal the classic rep flaws.

hmmmm.. I'm intrigued, I hope it's not a tachy shave..

Shaving tachy ring won't do you any good. The DW is offset on the dial the way the minute markers are not visible.

Finding gen Survivor dial is close to impossible. I'd love to get my hands on one, regardless of the cost.
