Sanding PVD'd CG Feet

I'm about to install my T crown, I may have to sand down the feet on my CG that is PVD'd. If I use 400 grit sandpaper, will that be fine enough so the PVD on edges don't flake off? I don't want virgin metal showing at the edges of the CG feet.
Thanks

Thanks for the info guys!
I solved the problem last night with my T48. I was able to install the new crown without sanding the CG feet, maintain a "snap" when closed, and get the crown to sit close to the case (it's not 100% close as I like, but we're talking about .02-.04 mm here).
The stem couldn't be too long since it would put a lot pressure on the stem and movement. I added a second rubber O-ring in the crown to make the crown sit tighter when the CG lever is lowered. The added benefit to this is now I'll regain some of my lost water-resistance.
