Reality of Panerai rep?

I'm sorry, I've been lurking RWI for the past 4 months, finally I think the panerai bug has bit me. People say Panerai are the hardest to detect interms of authenticity. How true is it, if I walk into an AD with a 300 dollar Panerai on, will they call me out on it? Thanks

In my experience, you're more likely to be called out by an enthusiast than someone working at an AD. Most of the time, they're not as knowledgible as you'd expect, and often won't call you out for fear of losing a potential sale.

If you are only collecting to find the perfect rep, then you are in for a long trying hobby. I enjoy every watch I buy despite any faults I or anyone else may find with it. After all, this is not about fooling people into thinking you have 15 gen watches...it's about buying what you like, discussing it with others, having fun, and enjoying our little community.

Asia
PAM is really getting popular in Asia - can see a lot of them in Singapore and Bangkok - but have to agree that most people will not be able to spot a recessed canon pin, or wrong font...

I see a lot of people around the east coast (US) that are sporting pams now.

Personally, I can easily tell the gens from the reps, or..lower class reps, there are some that suck so bad...I almost find myself laughing.

If your going to grab a PAM, wait for davidson to get his butt in gear and come out w/ a perfect 111h or something.

I am sure we will have "perfect" pams soon enough.

Seems like the price are going up a fair bit with all the mods that is needed to achieve that 'perfect' rep...

Based on the current PAM reps, it's hard to detect... My fantasy PAM with carbon dial, fixed canon pin, relumed and oxidized Ti gets the most compliment. Such model doesn't exist in reality.

I would say 95% of the population aren't interested in watches, they just want something to tell the time, of the 5% left 95% don't/can't afford a 'high end watch' and 95% of those left wouldn't know what a Panerai was. In the UK there's only about a dozen shops sell them so you're highly unlikely to get called out unless it's total junk. Most comments would be 'why are you wearing a clock on your wrist'
However I was at a party recently where a couple of people were wearing PAMs and complemented me on my EddieLee 005 lumed and plumed by Finepics :D

no such thing, a PAM is just too pretty,

The size of your wrist does not matter because it is such a classy timepiece.

let face it a PAM (especially on an SS bracelet) is the classiest way to wear bling.

I have still to get an ss band pam...I was thinking about a flyback, fiddy or 1950 but I don't like gold anything and the flybacks arent repped well enough imho....

I am waiting a perfect pam, probably a 111h or otherwise sometype of chrono. price doesn't matter if its perfect I will more than likely consider it.

@Novesh

the 111h has really only has 2 flaws that bother me 1) the sucksass lume. 2) the recessed pin.

other wise its perfect.

and once you put on the SS band everything just feels right on your wrist and the world seems brighter and the singing birds in the trees sound better and the flowers smell sweeter and............

oops I was rambling again

Perfect?

Well not perfect but damn close.

I would look at an 005 or 195 from Davidsen.

If you want on the wrist perfect (which is all that matters, IMHO) you could get Davidsen to set you up a 111h with a super lume dial (no text on movement or swan neck, but who cares) or you could go for one of Davidsen's 127s.

true, but hed have to return my emails lol.

that and I don't know if he can get the swiss mvmt and everything. I really like the 111h and I got rid of mine because the pin and guard weren't upto par, not to mention the lume sucked.

I am in no desperate need of a pam now anyway, although I see them often enough most of them give me compliments on my f.a. or my gen omegas.

ill get a constellation before I get a pam right now.

I have two gens a dbl eagle and a white face 02. both very nice and I don't wear them.

to me that would b a much classier watch than a pam on an ss band.

then again I havnt bought a gen pam on ss/ti yet

Wow, I couldn't agree more!! :D :D
That is exactly why I am buying reps and thank you for finding me such a good reason to spend my money.
I guess I know how to convince the woman in house, now.
