Hello, please does anyone know what quartz movement is this and how I can get the battery out? It is from a Cartier balloon blue. Thank you

Looks like a 379/SR521SW battery. You can get a gen Swiss Renata from Amazon for about $5. To remove, it looks like it just rotates out and the new one rotates in under the lip in the left of your photo.

Thank you very much. I ended up removing the steel plate on top covering the movement, to then replace the battery. Not sure if there was another easier way.

Hmm, perplexing. You might just get away with being able to get a jeweler to do it then. A gen Rolex AD replaced the battery of my mom’s rep Hermes without batting an eye when told it was a rep.

Thank you. I tried, but I could not get in with my smallest screwdriver

this is a rep, yes?
because I found this movement in a Panthere on a dodgy Hont fake site

This looks like a decorated Ronda movement

which would mean that the plate on which the Cartier is engraved is purely decorative
The screw that I circled should loosen the small ridge and allow the battery loose

Thank you. Yes, it is a rep, and you are right, the plate is decorative and I thought the same, that by unscrewing that screw, the ridge would come loose, but it didn’t, how we by unscrewing also the screw on the other side, the plate came out and it was then easy to replace the battery. Learning curve, which took me over an hour. :)

Good point. Yes, I don’t think they care much, but I wanted to avoid a trip to the jeweler and £30 for batter replacement, when I could possibly do it myself. :)

And this is what got me started in building and modding…

Accounting for the tools and damaged/lost stuff along the journey, I don’t think I actually saved or earned money net net…quite the contrary 😂

But I got richer with a fascinating new hobby and learned new skills

Good to hear. Same here. And I love this forum and all the help I can find from people like you! By the way, since you are well more into it, can you recommend any “build my watch and movement kit” for beginners?

i had a Franken built. I didn’t attempt to build a movement from scratch. I chickened out and bought one from either Ofrei or Esslinger

That’s a great idea.

Here is an easy, cheap set
Nautilus Watch Case 39mm NH38 Watch Case Sapphire Mirror PP Case Kit for NH35/4R/NH38 Movement Watch Modification Repair Parts

You will only need a NH35 movement.

Another much better option that’s a little bit more expensive is to buy a 5513 or 14060 set from Raffles

This is the link to the case. There is an email address on the home page. You can write to him and ask for :

A complete set for a 5513 to be built with a NH38

Thank you. Mmm…I was searching around and you are right, building a movement is a push…I will start with building something with the movement already done.

Thank you very much for that. I like those, but I wanted to stay away from a lookalike watch and do something that doesn’t remind of any of the big brands. I get the point though…and probably better to buy dial/hands set + case/saphire set + movement
