PAM Rookie: How annoying is manual wind?

I own about 10 watches, all automatic or quartz. I've never owned a manual wind. Breitlings are my favorite, but I'm starting to look into PAMs.

I really like the presence and look of the Fiddy, but I'm torn about the manual wind. In particular, I'm looking at the DSN Ultimate Fiddy. I like the clear caseback, superlume, and accurate markings. But I'd hate to have to reset it every 2 days because I forget to wind it.

So, my questions are:

1) What are your thoughts on manual wind PAMs?

2) What are your thoughts on the new Ultimate Fiddy?

3) Are there automatic PAMs comparable to the Fiddy?

Thanks!

i honestly think the only way to go with pams are manual winds. there is just something about winding it.

the new fiddys from dsn are good, for the money nothing is going to be close.

no there is not. there are ultimate versions (ex 199, 088) but nothing that compares to a 127. thats in a league of its own

Hello Tony

Just my two cents for you...

1) What are your thoughts on manual wind PAMs?
This is really easy, just a few winds and set the time, it work all day, and a full wind last for two days

2) What are your thoughts on the new Ultimate Fiddy?

Ultimate?? How?? Where?? there is no ultimate per se, you need to check the dial, crown guard, caseback, the movement (swan neck), watch case, lugs, etc, etc. And you always need to send to re-lume your watch, if you want something really special(if is that what you call ultimate)

3) Are there automatic PAMs comparable to the Fiddy?
How?? there are not the same, the 1950 is a classic, such as the 111 is, there are anothers that look alike but not the same, the good thing about the fiddy and 111, is that the really popular models gets better replicas really fast, every mounth or so, you found a better choice.

If you wnat to learn a lot about

My 127E from DSN is about 50 hrs. But I dont know if is the luck of the draw, or is what you get normally.

I am truly amazed that anyone who has an interest in watches cannot be bothered to take 5 seconds in the morning to wind up a watch. I would suggest these people just go buy a quartz.

Quartz watches are practical...Automatics are beautiful...Manuals are a lifestyle.

With a manual watch you have to make winding it part of your daily routine like brushing and flossing.

I have a pam127...Beautiful watch, don't think about it twice. If you lume it and remove that blue ar it is amazing.I have put a gunny strap on it and i am going to take care of the other to mods...As for the winding, you lose 30-40 sec everyday. Is that annoying???Not at all,i lose more time finding a parking place...

Yep, quartz & manual are the opposite, i would say automatic is the "happy medium" but in general manual movement are the best looking & i kind of like winding it ^^

the manual pam reps are the most accurate, besides an auto is just or more annoying if you don't have a winder, since you have to be weary of when your re-setting the date on an auto... ironically, the only thing i would like with a manual wind is having a date.

The ritual of setting and winding a mechanical watch is part of the ownership experience, IMHO.

Putting my non-7750 automatics on a winder doesn't keep them set when they are fully wound beforehand. So I will take more time setting them than winding a 17J with no date.

As has been stated, if this ritual is annoying, buy a quartz or a 7750 and put it on a winder.

this may be a stupid question but i have never owned a manual yet either. is it bad to wind it every morning or is it best to wait a few days then wind it again?

Quartz is fantastic. Manual is purity and greatness. Auto is classy and desirable.
Watches are cool... any way they run is fine with me!

Winding and setting a manual is no big deal. 30 secs and out the door.

For me I really like the manual wind. Having to wind it is kind of fun vs. taking an auto off the winder. Don't know about everyone else, but I've had the best luck with the manual wind movements (Both ETA 6497) vs.. the A7750's...

I say if winding a watch before you wear it annoys you, it's time to have some real issues worth worrying about in life. ; )

My experience is that manaul winds are easily combined with automatics. If the movement stopped (forget to rewind) it is very easily reset as you do not need to reset the date. More easy than an auto movement with date.
