hey guys just picked up a Pam 177H. its got the asian 6497 movement. watch ran great for a couple hours. it is fully wound at this time. it has now completely stopped working in normal position. i have clicked the wheel one more time and layed the watch face down. the movement is now tickin away normally but when i put it face up to wear it it stops.....now im finding that if i give it a shake when it is on my wrist it starts up again but is running really fast....like gaining 15 mins in an hour. any ideas? (btw ive already contacted the dealer)

Not an expert, but I would say that it isn't running properly. :p

This is a service or replce issue.

I think you may have just recieved a bad movement. I doubt it has anything to do with it being an Asian movement. I have 4 Asain Unitas movements and they all function perfectly.

I think so... Asian Unitas (the older model, not the "time bomb" new fat swan neck regulator hand type movements are reliable. To be specific, go for davidsen's Asian Movement. Don't underestimate its lack of swan neck... Long power reserve, oiled and pretty accurate out of the box.

yeah....maybe i just will just get a replacement shipped out. i dont really want to have to make up the $150USD difference to go swiss. this is just my beater watch as i wear my gen rolex all of the other time.

The asian handwinds are exceedingly robust. There's no need to go Swiss.

If you are brave enough, Open the case and shake the movement around a little. I had a very similar issue with a swiss unitas. There was a screw loose inside and kept jamming up the gears. I thought I recieved a bad movement also. seem that when these movements are assembled they dont take time to realy tighten the screws. This last one purchase had the same thing. This time the screw that holds the crown stem came loose. There could be a simple fix that would save you having to wait around for another watch to show up and have possibly the same issue.

yeah when i was shakin it it did sound like something was loose in there....i dont really kno how to open the case lol...unfortunately i just shipped it back to the dealer through canada post. would a loose screw cause a huge gain in time though? like 6 hours overnight?

I realy dont know if a loose screw could cause it to gain that much time unless it was lodged just right in the mainspring maybe. (that is were my loose screw kept getting caugth up in). I realy think maybe it was not checked proberly. It was not regulated and no QC to make sure everything was installed correctly. My asian unitas runs perfectly so far. Keeping great time, but have not tested it yet to see if it gains for loosed. I can tell you from day to day, the time seems to be perfect when compared to my gen quartz omega.

Did you check out the link? It's not broken, it's a design flaw in the movt, and if it's replaced with a watch containing the same movt. it will stop too. Sooner or later anyway...

Mine seems to be working flawlessly. Its has only lost 2 seconds in the last 12 hours and thats compared to my gen omega quartz. Its a piece by piece issue. I have had auto asians that would not work for longer that 10 minutes and I have had some that worked better than some of my ETAs
