PAM 127 - Helpppp! I'm screwed.

I just bought a PAM 127 off this board about two weeks ago. A few problems ensued.

First, the minute hand fell off. I decided, after reviewing the forum and a few articles, that I would fix them myself. I bought the tools and did it this morning. That went fine, and everything was back in order, except I dropped one of the tiny case clamp screws and now I can't find it. Are these screws standard across watch brands/movements/Panerai/rep? I have no idea how to replace this. I still have the clamp and the other screw/clamp, but not the one missing case screw.

Then, the CG won't fasten back on to the case. The screws only dangle a little bit below the CG, and they don't seem deep enough to catch the holes on the case. I've tried the screws directly into the case, and they seem to work fine. It appears to just be a matter of the screws being too short. This is frustrating. Is this possible? Is it normal for the screws to only poke out a tiny bit from the bottom of the CG?

Any idea where I can get this case screw and two CG screws?

Thanks,
Ryan

That means you have stripped the holes.

Go to a hardware store and look for a small blue tube of locktite, called thread locker. Use a small drop in each hold screw in screws, and then DONT snap cg, let it sit overnight

Is the CG sitting flush against the case? If not, ensure you are putting back in the same direction. The CG lever should open from the bottom and flip up on the 127. You could also try installing the CG with the lever open. One thing to watch out for is the crown. Hopefully it is all the way in and not sticking out too far. Oh, you are using the same screws you took out, yes?

Yep. It's in the right way (REG TM facing downward, etc.) and it's completely flush. I also tried installing with the lever open, no go. And the crown is pushed in.

I know it sounds like I'm an idiot ( :) ) but I swear I'm not. It really seems like the screws are too short. They only stick down about a millimeter or two. I'd expect them to go down in a good centimeter.

And when I screw them directly into the case, they don't feel stripped. When I put them through the CG, they just don't seem long enough.

I already have the loctite so I'll give that a shot. Hopefully that works.

Are the screws of different lengths? any debris (such as old threadlocker) on the screws or in the holes on the CG?

Also, someone smarter than I can answer your Q about the movement holder screw. :) Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. Nope, they're the same size. Tried that too. And they are completely clean, as is the CG.

I think maybe the screws were in there before on just 1 or 1.5 rotations, and that the very top of the thread has been stripped or something. In any event, I really don't think the screws are long enough.

Thanks. Those are definitely longer than mine. Anyone have any laying around? :)

The plot thickens..
How can a screw get shorter just by being taken out?
Or is it the CG that have become thicker?
Now THIS is what would be on my mind if I was You, not how to fix it..

First, look under the table. Maybe You lost the correct screws?
Second, disect the vaccum cleaner and see if the maid cleaned them up. (If You dont have a maid i suggest You get one. They can be quite handy).
Third, give up and contact panatime. But I must say that are one of the most expencive piece of metal I ever seen... 9 bux for two small screws.

Thanks for the reply/help.

These are definitely the correct screws. I think what happened is that the screws barely reached into the holes, and that they either 1) were held in by a threadlocker, or 2) were stripped on the very top thread.

Those other screws in the picture are definitely a little longer than mine.
