Yesterday I went to an AD to see some gens, I was sporting my gen 111h in search of a 187 or 087 so I could see the accuracy. I also wanted to buy a gen strap. Well I saw none of what I wanted to see but I did play with another gen chrono. I was suprised that the action was not much smoother than my rep 187. Kinda clunky and for $8900.00 clams I'm sticking with the rep. BTW Just like the rep I had to wind it up pretty good to even get the chrono to work.

yeah, the bezel / action on the gen subs are notoriously bad!

the gens definitely have a nice finish to them in terms of the ar coating, the fit of the crown guard, etc., that is not consistently found in reps. my gen 111h always standouts when i have it next to my (albeit high quality) reps.

but having said that, it is questionable whether the sum of the parts (modified 6497 movement, 316l stainless, sapphire crystal) is worth thousands of dollars...at least when you don't have enough money to burn!

Doesn't take an analyst's qualification to surmise that Panerai's (make that, all high-end retail) margins are fat.

Restrict volume; spend a $hit load on marketing to ensure sufficient demand, and price at the margin such that you sell every one at the constrained volume. Micro 101.
