Working on this watch for a friend. Cheapie hamilton. The stem was broken off. So I placed a new one on then it wouldn't go in. So I tore down keyless works. The clutch wheel is way too small for a 2824, 2836 stem to fit through it.

Am i being stupid? What movement is this?

I've seen this before. I just replaced the tiny winding pinion with the larger 2824/36 one.

Oh I never knew the 2824/2824-2 used a different stem!

I have plently of 28xx parts so that was gonna be my next move. Just had to ask because I've been inside many a 28xx and have never seen that before. Wild. Thank you!

Will report back to confirm.

The fine adjustment fork looks fake. If it is then it’s a Shanghai 2824, not an actual clone.

I believe you are correct, clutch wheel and winding pinion Inner diameters are both too small for standard 28xx stem, so both will need replaced.

I will swap them in tomorrow as I'm too tired tonight and report back.

Im glad I posted, I couldn't find anything about this in the great depths of the rwi catacombs.

Maybe it will help some fella down the line.

My thoughts were that it was a "Shanghai" as well. I will checkout that fork tomorrow.

Seems to be running quite well surprisingly. No idea how long the stem has been out of the watch might have been years and years

Unfortunately, the original stem has gone by-by I guess, wasn't provided with the watch.
