Some wrist shots of the gen 1171 bracelet with 633 end links on the 21j. End links don't fit perfectly and I need to figure out what size crystal I need to swap out for a raised one...

Thanks for the pictures, that was exactly what I was looking for. I have my very own 1171 on the way!By the way, RWI has been down for me for several days. TB knows about it, but is having trouble figuring out why there are only a few of us having trouble getting on this site (Luckie can\'t get on either). I\'m currently using a Proxy server now that is painfully slow. I\'m a little sad. :(

RWI's been hit-and-miss for me, too, these past few weeks.

So, did anyone buy anything from the Great Watchco Blowout? Cases weren't so cheap, but those guys who bought Cal.321 Speedies for less than $2500 did very well, I think.

I was watching the cases, but they went out of my price range at the end of the auction(s)...!

I'm back on RWI!

There is a Speedy auto case on ebay that could be a base for an interesting build. (LINK). The price is still pretty low with only an hour to go.

EDIT: Well, it sold a little higher than I would have expected.

5?: New purchase? Seems odd, at first, seeing an SMP without the 5-segmented bracelet. But it works after a minute!

Yep, I just got this watch off ebay. I didn't care for the bracelet when it arrived so I started looking at alternatives. The idea of a dressy dive watch is a little weird anyway if you think about it! (Unless you are British royalty or James Bond :)). I figured I could work on those folded 633 end links and get them to fit, and the gamble paid off. The watch is much more subtle now and I like it better, although I'm sure many people would prefer it on the original bracelet. The 1171 is also very comfortable. Below are before and after pictures that show the difference, but it is much more pronounced on the wrist.

Nice 5 of clubs, I've always found the bond bracelet lovely to wear but a bit too busy and dressy for me.
I tried my black bond on a speedy smp strap(similar to 2254) and an aqua terra 2500 cal strap...and it looks much better, tones it down makes it look a more casual watch, especially on the AT bracelet as its all brushed, the clasp is finicky on those though.

I really like the 1171 above on it, thanks for the info that it fits!

That's exactly what I was hoping to do, make it a more casual watch. I really like the AT bracelet you mentioned and would have loved to try one. However, the gen is super expensive and I didn't know if the rep version would fit. The 1171 looks a bit similar to the AT, so I can live with it. The 633 end links took a bit of filing to make them work in case you try this combination at some point, but it wasn't difficult to get them on.

yeah, i love the 1171. except for how light it feels. amazing the difference between solid links and hollow ones. i need to do some work to my end links to make them fit better. i also need to swap out the crystal you sent me. i have it back and i'm going to try it in my 21j.

i put mine on a black rallye strap and it looks pretty cool too. i'll post some pics later tonight.

Ah, the link is to a balance assembly mate, not a complete movement.
I'm not aware of anyone who has built a franken Moonie, not sure a case exists that will take a gen movement even if you shell out the well over 1K a Lemania costs.

The gen dial will fit the lemania/tissot 873/1873 movement (the link you posted is just for the balance though, not the movement, be carefull).

To fit the lemania/tissot 873/1873 movement in a speedy seagull case you will need also the gen movement holder. Moding will also be needed, check post #120 of member LHOOQ in this thread.

Yes, I have! It was not an easy install. I had to sand the bottom of the crystal and then sand the sides to get it to fit. In other words, the gen crystal is larger in diameter than my existing flat crystal.

Just for reference, I have a Silix ST19 model I bought last year. The dials are sunken, and the it has the little accent mark over the tachymetre wording. I also painted the rehaut to make it look less tall. The overall effect is as close to gen as you can get. But the dial spacing will always be an issue and so is the 6 o'clock dial hand that follows the hour hand. If I could freeze the dial, that would help, but still dial spacing is a dead give away for me.

Back to the crystal. The gen crystal has small black piece of aluminum or metal on the bottom of the crystal. I think this is the gasket that is built to compress against the rehaut. But not sure. Anyway, I had to sand this metal away completely to get the height of the crystal correct. Then I sanded the sides near the bottom until it fit. This is tricky to try to keep it round as possible while sanding. Then I had my watch maker glue it in for me as I didn't have the right kind of glue. It looks great now!

Has anyone tried a gen plexi crystal on the manual wind before????

Ok. Resurrecting this thread. I'm ready to swap out the crystal. Someone tell me how. Does the bezel come off and I do it from the front? Or am I removing the movement and putting it in from the back? I'm kind of an idiot so step by step would be helpful...

I wish I knew mark, five o c should be along soon to answer definitively, it does look like a remove movement and push it out job though, but thats only guesswork on my behalf. I do like the look of your a21j on the 1171 bracelet though, looks pretty close to gen, the watch will be great after the crystal swap
