Fiddy for me, that is my personal favorite

if you don't mind me asking, the 2 are so close, is it the glass back or movement?

Actually neither, I like the "1950" on the dial. I don't care whether a watch has a display back or not.

no, i do not have fiddy.. soon..

I like everything about it, esp. the gold hands.. it just
grabs me.. while the mm20 in comparison just, for me,
has no zip...

i prefer the 127, the subdial on the mm ruins it for me... looks to close to the 9

This is a case of using stuff that is physically different ...

1) MM20 Dial is based on VINTAGE 47mm so it has Larger 3-6-9-12 and thus the subsecond will be closer, was true on the ORIGINAL as well, not an inaccuracy.

The MM20 was copy of an OLD c.1940s vintage, so kept the same dial design, trouble is they used an ETA 6497 and all the GENs, the original PANERAI used ANGELUS 8 day movements for subsecond models. The subsecond on the ANGELUS is ~1.5mm closer to the centre than the ETA, so the large number Indexes didn't cause a problem ...

2) The 1950 was MADE for a 6497 movement, so the indexes are smaller to make more room on the dial.

All rep dials are made with 6497 movements as the basis, so the older REP dials have configuration problems, the stuff doesn't fit cleanly because there is only a finite amount of space!

3) One current EXCEPTION: The First PAM203 REPs solved this by using an AUTO Chinese movt that has the correct distance, (well almost anyway ~) and so those dials were very accurate, all they forgot to do was make them BROWN! The newer PAM203 REPs have gone back to 6497 movements, so again those dials are visually wrong ...

Picking from the two you have choosen is a personal preference. As these subtle design differences and make these watches look unique. One thing the photos won't show off is the 1950 SAPPHIRE dome distorts the heck out of the indexes to the eye. This is unique to the 1950 and not the MM20 - - personally I really like this effect on the new Historical Panerai ... the indexes are too small for my taste, but the SAPPHIRE makes up by causing them to magnify and 'jump' around at angles of view ... that is unique to the PAM 127 PAM 217 and PAM 203 ... it's a cool feature that only really comes with a Davidsen Rep sapphire dome ... or a GEN of course!

see this is why i am addicted to this site, great info i would never have known on my own, thanks enzo....

Fiddy would be my personal choice. Like the straight hands more, and as it was pointed out the MM's subdial is squeezed too close to number '9'.

The latest PAM127 from Andrew also uses thick 6mm sapphire as Davidsen, and the distorsion effect of the dial indices is the same.

cheers,
