Well, in my initial post somebody predicted my future. "You'll be a Panerai man soon!" he exclaimed. I laughed him off. Panerai? Not me, no way.

I awaited my first three reps, and pushed Panerai out of my mind. I wrestled with images of "Luminor" in my head. I counted sheep when I couldn't sleep....and they turned into Panerai wearing sheep. My wife knew that something was wrong. "What is it Canoe?" she begged. I wouldn't tell her. I would go for hours without saying a word.

And then it happened. I was up at 3am working on a project. My wife was sleeping...nobody was awake. Nobody would know. "NO" I shouted to myself. "I will not give in." But I did. I was not strong enough...
Before I knew it, a Panerai was on my computer screen, laughing at me...as if to say "I knew you'd love me...my name is written all over your pathetic head."

And now, I am coming out of the Panerai closet. I will be ordering my first Panerai before I even set my eyes on my expected babies. The only question is....which one?

I've narrowed it down to three choices...any feedback on these specific models and possible mods I could do to bring it to near perfection would be AMAZING.

I would not order one of them. Very hard to modd and very expensive.
For the first Panerai I would go with the 111. That is the classic Panerai and a must have. Handwind movement and you can do a lot of modds to it.
Here is a pic of a fully modded one

PANERAI, there is no other way!!!

Welcome to the PANERAI club..

I was a PANERAI fan since the beginig, but i know your post was an honest one IMO.
So i went for a high end replica for my first one.

There is two ways to approach your first PAM..
1 As GURU said go for a nice 111h or 111k and is a really god rep if your are an anal person and looking for the detail.
2 Buy a cheap 80usd GMT as you saw in silix, not so accurate as 111, but an easy way to find if you like the size and weight of PAM.

Or, at the end go my way, find the one that you like (PAM196 in my case with HONT), and find the best rep of that model and ignore the details.

As you see in my review, I LOVE 196

Good Luck and welcome to the PANERAI side of the force!!

they kinda suck you in when you're not expecting it....

BTW - started with a nice 111h myself, it's what got me hooked.

have fun!

I understand that they are hard to mod, but are they really that far off from the gen's? And as for expense, I mean, as far as I understand the 111 is about 200$ base. Thats not much less than these babies?....

Can you please explain?

Canoe,

I just have to say that I laughed quite hard at your post. Nothing like someone who knows how to tell a story!

I too, suffer from the same exact sickness.

I was running around the forums looking for just a PO, thinking that Pams were just some strange collector's item for the eccentric people on this board.

But then... just like you... I slowly turned.

Now that brown-faced Pam on a chunky leather strap is also haunting my dreams. Something must be done.

But my wallet is already feeling the hurt...

Hmmm decisions decisions.

First , the case set seems like far from the stand size , so that even you want to mod it , the parts you get might not fit at all . Second , if the one need to get " lot of " parts to mod , and those parts will cost maybe more than that watch , to pick up a better version will save your money in the future .
Get a 111H is really a good choice in the first , most easy to mod it as the gen .

I see. How do you know that these watches are not standard size? They seem to be in the same weight and size class as most other PAMs? They're too nice!

Also, which dealer would be best to get the 111 from? I noticed that on a few of their sites, the model numbers dont correspond to the watches.

What is it about Panerais?! I too had never heard of them before I found RWI. In the end, I was smitten by the simplicity of the designs. Based on reviews here. my first rep was a DSN PAM 112. I still wear it all time and love it. Took it to an AR at Heathrow airport a couple of years ago and the saleman, who was a real PAM freak, was quite distressed by how good it was.
My only advice is that you absolutely must factor in the cost of a good strap. A really fine chunky leather strap makes the Panerai, perhaps more than any other watch. Have fun. You won't be happy with just one........

The first step to treating a problem is to admit you have one. Now that you have we can hopefully save you.
