HELP!! My fiddy is running super fast....

Ok, so everything was fine with my fiddy that I bought from RaZoRFiSh. I wore it for about 2 weeks without a single issue and the watch kept very accurate time. Then yesterday morning I wound it up again, like I always do and until lunch it kept absolutely perfect time. Then I went to lunch and several hours after that I glanced down at the watch and noticed, to my horror, that it was about 15 minutes fast.

I put the watch back to normal time and tested it several times, it runs fast, gaining about 1 minute for every 20. At night it gained about 35-40 minutes...

Is there an easy fix or am I screwed? I have a sinking feeling in my stomach that something is terribly wrong. I don't see any problems with the mechanism, just by looking at it.

Thanks everyone.

Hmm.. It sounds as if you might be experiencing a locallized change in the gravitational pull of the Earth, in much the same way as a watch runs faster in orbit than it does at sea level. Have you noticed anything strange in your area, such as floating cars or water spilling up? It could be that the effect is very localized to the area of your left wrist. I think Rod Serling might be knocking on your door about some Twilighty Zoneish type thing. Or maybe the mainspring just got magnetized.. who knows, but I bet it's the gravity thing.

Have you been in or near a "black hole" lately? You may have experienced a small "gamma burst" from the explosion of a distant star. Put the watch on and stand upside down with your head in a bucket of piranha fish, that should correct this problem. :D

It can be a million things (none of those suggested above), so you should have it serviced by a watchmaker. No easy solution for this one. I'll be quite nice if your dealer accepts that you return it.

Why can't it be a magnetized issue?

Take it to a local watchsmith and have them demagnetize it - then test it again.

Hey.. I suggested a magnetized mainspring too.. sure the bulk of my post was out there, but I really think that may be the issue.. I don't think it costs too much to demag a watch. A leprechaun could do it, but if you can't catch one, maybe a wood nymph could (if she's not too moody that day).

sorry for the levity.... if my watch was running fast, i wouldn't be in the mood for other people to be joking around about it...

demagnetizing it seems like the easiest/best first step to troubleshooting as has already been said... good luck with it and I hope it gets corrected quickly and cheaply...

I've had a watch that was losing an excessive amount of time. I think the hairspring was binded or it had some dust on it. Nothing a gentle blast of air and a light slap couldn't fix. Been keeping good time ever since! Not sure if this issue would speed up a watch though?

did you knock the watch on something, and give it a good jar

sometimes the hair spring "jumps" a coil and hangs up . this makes it suddenly run fast . take the watch off and give it a rap on a giveing surface , like a book , first face down , then face up . not too hard , not too soft , you are trying to untangle the hair spring. i definately feel its not the main spring , as the flow of energy is good [ its even running fast] and the unwinding of the mainspring is regulated by the escapement which is controlled by the hairspring . ERGO , its the hair spring that has gotten tangled . just MHO :)

I will give that a try right now.

Its weird because it worked flawlessly for several weeks and then one day, after lunch it just started doing that. I am not sure whether I hit it or shook it or something...

Ok, so I smacked it around plenty and I set it at 10:30am. Now its 12:33 pm and so far its perfect time, so I think it worked!

Thank you all so much for your help. Don't mind my mood in the begining of the thread.. I was just upset about the watch.

:D

Thanks again
