I have made it one of my New Year's resolution to pick up a GUG chrono, probably within the next month. I have seen some nice ones here in the GUG section looking at the Zeno, the Steinhart and the Chronodeco, all nice chrono's for the money.
But, I have narrowed it down to one of these five, all housing a Val. 7750 and all have an exhibition back.

I value the opinions of my fellow reperisti's so feel free to vote for one. If you have something else in mind please feel free to say which watch it is, as long as it's under a grand. :D

Watch # 1: Accutron Gemini (luminous hands and markers- 1 year warranty -great deal at $563.00

Watch # 2: Chase Durer (superluminova on hands and indexes-2 year warranty priced just under $ 1000 )

Watch # 3: Hamilton Jazzmaster (luminous hands and markers-3 year warranty)

Watch # 4: Jacques Lemans (5 year warranty)

Watch # 5: Tissot Chrono (only $630.00 )

My vote goes to the Hamilton. The Jazzmaster is a nice looking watch. Have you considered the Hamilton Aviation Chrono? I know you can find those with the 7753 mvt in them for under a grand as well.

Chase Durer, although that Tissot is not bad at all... the other ones a further back in my book. Of course, it should also depend on what else you already own.

How about these for your consideration:
http://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Antiq...1_57?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1231041244&sr=1-57

http://www.amazon.com/Poljot-AEROGR...r_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1231040796&sr=1-9

http://www.amazon.com/Accutron-Gemi...1_35?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1231041147&sr=1-35

or these quartz models:
http://www.amazon.com/Philip-Stein-...1_15?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1231041054&sr=1-15

http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-Watche...1_55?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1231041244&sr=1-55

Of course, if you wanted to go just a bit over $1K [smilie=angel12.gif] , you could go with the first (Erzer) or last (Leonidas) on the following page http://www.watchestobuy.com/newpage6.htm

Just my $.02...

its the accutron for good value and excellent heritage. The JL runs a close but is a bit dressy but depends on its day to day function.
Chase durer always gave me douche chills . Seems like they over sell the pilot image and few real pilots i have seen wear them. The one pictured is nice though, they have carved a niche it seems.

Cant lose, any of the choices are good watches.

Surprisingly, I had to go with the Accutron. I really like the Hamilton and the JL, but the Accutron seemed to have the best mix of classy/sporty/utilitarian and has a very interesting face without being too busy.
When I saw the ballot list without seeing the pics, I figured the Accutron would be last on my list. Who knew?

For me it would be a toss-up between the Accutron and the Hammy. I agree that the Accutron balances dress/casual a bit better than the Jazzmaster.

If you're after a pilot chrono for less than a G, pass on the Chase Durer (I agree with 'buff, something about that marque rubs me the wrong way) and have a look at this one: viewtopic.php?f=193&t=47926

Good luck, cybee!

Yes the Chase Durer was really never a contender, I just threw it in for for fun. It looks like it will be the Accutron or the Jazzmaster at this point. Hooligan your Steinhart is nice but I see what you mean about the crown sticking out, maybe they just didnt cut the stem short enough.

I actually prefer the bicompax look, just a little simpler in style. To confuse things here is a Zeno with bicompax, but it runs a little more money...at this point I don't think any other's at this price range is a better quality than the Hamilton or the Accutron....Thanks for all the opinions guys. :D

Wow, I may end up picking up a Hamilton myself! Not having seen any of these watches in real life, I say Hamilton first, with Accutron a close second. I don't like the Chase Durer since I don't like Navitimers (dial too busy for my liking). The Jacque Lemans seems to be having an identity crisis and can't figure out whether it's a dress watch or a sport watch. No real feelings about the Tissot.

I agree with you boo...

Thanks for all the votes. It looks like of these choices and for the money, the Hamilton is the winner and I agree. The only problem now is that I have been bitten by another watch brand, so for now the Hamilton will have to wait a few more months... You now how it is when you have a terminal case of Watch Aquisition Syndrome...ugh!

I am disappointed in Chase Durer too. They took the Combat Command Limited Edition and cheapened it up.
Notice on mine that the crown is very special and the movement is decorated and very clean!

So in later models of this watch (I believe it is a second run of XXX pieces, IDK) It has a yellow GMT hand, no decorated movement and a plain crown with no chase plane on it. I have the photos at home but it's sad they did this. I guess my message is if you find an older Chase, don't pass it up, they are amazing!

Not on the list but the Zeno is also a good choice. They come in a range of sizes and have a good "pilot" style. The 7750 is decorated and visible through the exhibition back.

I would go for the Zeno but, as it is not on the list, Accutron. :)
