I disappeared for a long time and I apologize for my long silence.

In March I had to go into hospital for major spinal surgery.
As I began my convalescence and was about to post on RWI again my father's condition, which was suffering from Alzheimer's in its final stages, seriously worsened.
So I took the time to look after him during his final weeks.

The last few days were terrible.
He called me by the first names of other men in my family, sometimes my uncle, sometimes my cousins, while he spoke to me of his son ... knowing that I was in fact his only son.
On Sunday April 21 my father was hospitalized and placed on respiratory assistance, but his kidneys stopped working and after a few hours his heart stopped beating.
His funeral took place on Monday April 29th.
I'm extremely sad, but I'm also relieved because I know that his suffering is over.

I'm going to slowly get back to work on my current watchmaking projects.
Those of you who are waiting for watches or dials from me need not worry, I will work as fast as I can to complete all these projects.
And those who have sent me messages for advice or requests while I've been away, please be patient ... I'll get back to you in the next few weeks.

Condolences to your family. My father passed on Good Friday (probably the only "Christ-like" thing he's ever done...to make a dark joke), it's quite disturbing to your moods and routines. Hope you're recovering and focused on the good days you had with your dad.

My condolences, Alzheimers is absolutely terrible. My grandma is currently going through it, and so is the entire family. Father has had three spinal surgeries, of which all three failed (and worsened) his condition. I can only imagine what you've been going through.

Glad to have you back. Take it easy.

My Condolences and thoughts are with you.

Welcome back (y)

I haven't had spinal surgery, but both my parents and Mels parents had Alzheimers, the only one still surviving is Mels 96 year old mum, but she is now in EOL care :( We have both had decades of it, my Dad used to call me Robert, (one of my cousins) .............

Yes, we both understand totally what you are going through and wish you all the best for the future.
What I can tell you is it will get better as time goes on, you have now gone through the toughest part, it's now the road onwards and upwards that you are on.

Our thoughts are with you, above all else look after yourself now 🙏

I won't be able to express myself as eloquently as others here, so I will simply say that I am very sorry for your loss and the struggles leading up to it, sorry to hear about the need for your major surgery, but glad that you are back and hopeful that you will physically and mentally recover in due time. As has been mentioned, you are an important part of this community and we are here to support you.
