I have removed the cyclops on a few as well. I am not a fan. To me it always effects the symmetry of the watch. Some subs/DDs look good with it but generally I feel they look better without it. It is one of the reasons why I like SeaDwellers and No Dates so much.
I'm happy with either. There's something archetypical about a Sub with a cyclops - even though I'm forever slightly irritated at what crud-catchers they are round their edges! I do like the novelty of this one too. I tend to agree though, that the Sea Dwellers have got a very pure, clean look.
