Extraordinary Panerai Encounter....

So, I’m waiting for my flight this morning in the Westchester (NY) Airport. A stunningly exotic looking woman catches my eye. She’s playing with her Blackberry and I oh so smoothly go over and stand next to her. Then I happen to notice that she’s wearing a Radiomir. Hmmmm, it was a bit strange as I took a closer gaze: stainless case, black dial, silver backed seconds at 9, and only the numeral 12. Ah ha, I’ve spotted a rep or a Canal Street fakey. But why would this obviously sophisticated and beautiful woman wear anything but the real thing?

So, I decide to let it go as I will not call her out on a rep. We board the plane and sure enough I’m sitting next to her. I chalk up a conversation and say “I happened to notice that gorgeous watch. Is it a Panerai?â€

I was hoping this was gonna turn into a "Mile High Club" story! Did you at least get her number?

No offence but, you gotta be really naive not to think the Pan, Rolex, Breitling people already have people browsing our web sites at least once a week. [smilie=glasses6.gif] [smilie=glasses7.gif]

  EXACTLY what I was thinking: beautiful, PAM, plane .... "Penetrating Pam wearing her PAM in a Plane with my Perfect P .... :!: :!: "
still @efnstefn a great encounter - you're lucky you weren't PAM'd. My odds of not being so are only ~5%.

Finally back home. Nothing exciting except for huge delays in Chicago. Par for the course.

So, I did get her business card and she gave me one of those "call me anytime or shoot me an email" sort of good byes. I said that I'd take her up on the offer.....looking for some marketing schwag.

She had a lot to say about all the celebs that call her looking for free watches. Apparently, they show up in the Beverly Hills boutique all the time and end up speaking with her in NYC...."Hi, it's J-Lo. I really want one of these watches. I'll wear it to the VMA's if I can get a deal. Perhaps on the house?" The answer is NO to everyone except Sly. He gets one of every model produced if he wants it. Tom Brady just purchased 18 watches from her. Pretty cool gifts for his cronies on the Pats offense. Enough name dropping!!

That's the story....no Mile High Club....sorry boys.

okay , now I'm getting the story in bits and pieces.

Did he bankroll them or promote them or both?

Can anybody share the whole story?

it would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember the story correctly (you may want to google the subject, it is out there) Sly discovered Panerai while in Italy. He really fell for the brand and commisioned them to make the first Slytechs. He got a 100 or so and began to give them to friends, such as Arnie, as gifts. He wore the first one on screen in the movie Daylight and Arnie wore one in the movie Eraser (with a nice close-up shot in the opening credits BTW).

After all this Panerai started to make more watches and sell on a larger sale. The Richmont group took over the brand and began to market them world wide.

So Sly basicly put Panerai on the map.
