The meat of why....

"Due to an congenital (present from birth) medical condition known as myotonia congenita or Thomsen's disease, the goat's muscles tense up when the animal is startled and don't immediately relax. Think of it as a full-body charley horse, except without the pain."

Actually it does hurt a bit and it's not good for them, they have muscle ache for days after. Plus of cause they can fall on sharp stuff.

Ok, I'm sorry... but how can anyone know that a goat has muscle aches for days?
Are you now both the Chief Cat Herder AND the Goat Whisperer, Col? ;-)

Because I was breeding goats while you were still in grade school LMR.
You can tell by the way they walk and you can feel tight muscles.

Do you "breed" them before or after feeling their tight muscles? And what exactly can you "tell" from the way they walk? Is that how you know the ones which are open to the whole "breeding" thing?

PS - it was nice knowing you all. ;-)
