So last year during a SoCal G2G one of the SoCal crew decided to sell a couple watches. One of the watches that was for sale was a Panerai 029b with really nice case, crystal, tuxedo dial. While it was being passed around, everyone seemed to comment on the fact that the GMT hand jumped in perfect one hour segments... But that was not really talked about too much.
I decided that the price (around $300) was fair and I snapped it up. Of course the first thing I do when I get home is open it up to grease the seals and such and what do I find???? A beautiful 2893-2 Swiss GMT movement. WOO HOO... That explains the GMT hands actions!!!
After a couple phone calls, emails and a slightly guilty conscience I decided to offer the watch back to the seller or pay a premium for the watch in addition to what I had already paid.
Because of the great case (the screws on this are perfectly flush on both the threaded side and the grooved side) and the bezel was as close to gen as Ive ever seen. A little work on the CG pin and it too would be perfect. We agreed on a price (and I began making payment for the remaining amount) (actually, I just checked my PP acount and I still have one payment due... OOPS).
Shortly before I last left I needed funds in a hurry and sold the watch to a local buyer who really was not all that concerned with what the watch contained, but he loved the look. I sold it to him with the original straps and a nice one that I had made for considerably less than I had paid for it only a couple months prior). I simply did not have the time to list it and wait for payment here.
So the other day I am again chatting with him and he mentions that he does not often wear the watch and that the other 8 or 9 that he has picked up are plenty. Today I picked the watch back up from him. It appears just as it did when I sold it and is still keeping perfect time.
SO, as much as I absolutely hated to let it go... Its now back home where it will stay.
