Hello:

Jules borel has this and a 6498. What is needed to drop it into a rep case to replace a different (cheaper) movement? Do you need a plastic movement spacer of any kind?

I have plans to replace the crappy half dollar size junky auto movement in a Pam I have with this and want to know exactly what I am getting into :)

Thanks in advance

go for 6497 for PAM. Hands may not fit though. Dial may not fit too
You may buy the whole set (hands, dial and movement) from davidsen. You won't regret having them!

Thanks Takashi! I have a Davidsen movement and dial (no markings) in one of my reps and like it. Nice quality. The only issue I have, and maybe he has updated them, is they are all the style with a "dummy" swan neck (not sure that is right term) and if I am going to spend the $, would prefer it be as spot on as possible and recent updated movement style.

Teh other factor in my decision not to worry about it looking like a real Panerai movement, is that the case of the watch I am "fixing" (long story--never buy from Ioffer if you can avoid it--my intro into world of reps) has a closed caseback--so looking for a quality movement--but doesn't have to be accurate in Panerai detail. Also, cost is a factor or else I run risk of throwing too much good money after bad.

The reason I ask, is I just saw an article from the Paneristi forum where a guy took an ETA 6497 (?) and customized it by skeletonizing it and then putting it into a genuine Panerai case! (what a silly waste when he could use an aftermarket case and not ruin a real pam!)

I will need to think about this some more :)

Thanks

Davidsen sells undecorated Swiss made 6497 movements, IIRC.

I think that same guy posted it on watchuseek, also. While I agree he could have done it for a lot cheaper by not using a gen Panerai, to each his own. He also removed the dial completely, so it was all movement and hands. Looked pretty cool, although not super easy to get the time at a glance (the hands kinda got lost with all the skeletonized movement pieces in the background).

I have heard from many that Davidsen's movements and dials are not interchangeable with other reps. Any other ideas from anyone?

I PM'd Davidsen a day or so ago--still waiting to hear back.

Thanks,

Dials are bigger, to accomodate slightly larger 44mm cases as available from David.

Movements are standard size/type just as any other Asian/Swiss ETA 6497.

If you're after swan neck regulator, he's got it as well (H series mov't with CDG bridges).
AFAIK, the only movement he's run out of at the moment is the E series Swiss 6497-1 mov't with decorated bridges and swan neck regulator - like the one used in 2002 Fiddy.

Hope this helps,
babola

It's an interesting topic, as I want to change my movement to a Swiss decorated 6497. If I understood correctly if I have an Asian 6497 I can order from Davidsen decorated Swiss, hands and it will fit in 44mm case?
Thank you.
