Am looking at a watch at PrimeTimeWatch and it is sold with the two mentioned movements. The 2892-2 is $200 more expensive. Is it worth it? I have studied up on the movements and there does not seem to be a whole lot of difference other than the 2892 being slightly more rugged.

Any comments for the guru?

2892 is made in only 2 grades. I couldn't tell you what they are called since they're in French or Swedish but basically let's call them great and excellent.

2824 and 2836 are made in 4 grades. Let's call them crappy, OK, great, and excellent. We get the crappy ones in our reps and most cheap watches.

Basically the 2892 is a more refined, newer movement which is put in more high end watches. Many are elaborately decorated and often certified chronometers

The 2824/2836 can be decorated and certified but only in the high end, when they will cost as much as the 2892.

Whether or not it's worth it is strictly up to you. For most of us the crappy ones work just fine.

Various grades these are. 2824 comes with novodiac shock 25 jewels and 2892 has incabloc and 21 jewels. 2894 generally runs 50 to 60 bux more.

I would get the 2824 and save $200.00.

There are excellent clones of the 2892 and Seagull movements that look the same for most eyes (including mine) : I would never spend 200 usd knowing that I have all chances to get a movement that is not what it is supposed to be.
As Guru said, get the 2824 or clone.

Putting this into context, you'd have to buy either elabore or top grade 2824-2 to keep up with a 2892-2. IMO the 2892 is a far superior movement both in time keeping and power reserve

This movement fights above its weight, even piggy backed to a Dubois Depraz.

make a trip to China every 5 years:) plenty of watchmakers take Seagull movements

or just buy a new movement off ebay, swap dial and hands.

Hi bro. Can 2824 be swapped with 2892 knowing they are same in diameter, 2892 is just about 1mm thinner?
