Hello Members,

Thus eta 2834-2 movement arrived today with the day wheel detached from the movement is it safe to call it defective?
I already contacted the seller on eBay for a return / Refund .

Thanks Ed

The small c clip is missing... Maybe it is somewhere with the box or foil it came in? Otherwise you can buy one c clip or as above said, glue it...

It's really hard to see if the clip is there in the pics. But this may be it, as the clip holds the hub onto the hand post, not the overlay onto the hub.

How does that small chrome C clip hood down the day wheel , the center of the day wheel is much wider than the C clip ?
Thanks Ed

Use a very small blade screwdriver to pull the gib (aka e-clip or c-clip) away from the pinion. Use care when doing so as not to damage the wheel or gib, or lose the gib for that matter. You'll also want to be sure to carefully center the day disc to the brass wheel / gear, so as not to have alignment issues once the dial is installed. And as others have already mentioned, GS Hypo works wonders.

If you end up losing or breaking the gib, you can acquire a replacement from Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133533860149 I speak from personal experience here  Otto Frei also sells them, but they quoted me 6-weeks LT.

Just curious why does this movement have 2 day wheel configuration? This one is installed under the brass plate ?

I'm going to refer to your daywheel as an overlay to differentiate it from the original daywheel, and because it is "overlaid" (glued) onto an original daywheel hub.

Just like many of our ETA rep movements need a datewheel overlay to provide Rolex fonts to the left shifted Rolex dial window position, you have been provided a daywheel overlay with fonts that are supposed to fit your Rolex day window position. Note the difference between the spacing on the original daywheel versus your daywheel overlay.

The original daywheel is not installed under the brass hub. The day fonts and white ring are either glued on top of the one piece brass daywheel's outer perimeter beyond its spokes, or printed directly onto its outer perimeter.

Look at the spacing - perhaps most recognizable between SATURDAY to SUNDAY. I commented before that it looked like that wouldn't fit in your dial day window.

So before going any further, I would make sure that your daywheel overlay fonts WILL fit to your dial day window. Take the hands off, and position the overlay where it should go and set your dial over it. See if the fonts fit the window. You can also do this with both parts in hand though positioning can be a little more cumbersome. Just take care not to scrape up the overlay fonts on the dial underside. But if they don't fit, there's no point in proceeding any further.

If they do fit, you can actually glue the overlay back onto the brass hub of the original daywheel while it remains on the movement. Obviously this would require some extra care but so does removing and reinstalling a circlip without breaking or losing it. So choose your poison, haha.

Check the underside of the overlay first but assuming the silver hub is large enough in diameter and sufficiently flat, the red in the pic below shows safe places to apply glue.

It's also always a good idea to remove old glue. You can use a razor blade, fine grit sandpaper, an alcohol damp paper towel, etc. Be ultra care not to apply so much pressure as to bend or dent the overlay or get alcohol anywhere near the printed fonts.
